A forth way of looking at/judging players or indeed a whole team is to take their performances as a whole and put them on an imaginary set of scales. Each good performance tips the scales one way, and a bad performance the other, whilst an average performance doesn't affect their balance one way or the other.

Using this system a player or team will fluctuate in quality a lot, especially at the start of a career or season. Now as the season and/or their career progresses it becomes harder to tip the scales as they have more and more performances put on them. This means that a player who has underperformed won't suddenly become good because of one decent performance, just as one who has been good won't suddenly become bad if they have a bad game. The only way it changes is if players put in a number of good or bad performances, which will start to balance out previous performances.

For me that seems the fairest most common sense way of judging things, but unfortunately it seems many others have their own criteria for judging things, namely taking a stance from the outset e.g. X player is great, and then being unwilling to change that stance even if all the evidence available suggests they should, to the point where they will 'attack' anyone who dares say anything which doesn't go along with their view of a particular player, topic or whatever.
It also works the other way, where if people don't like a player they won't admit when they have had a good game, despite the stats proving otherwise.

Yes it does, but like I said, those people who 'attack' others tend to be the ones with the actual biases and should thus look at their own views before laying into others for theirs.

Can Lyon surprise Barca at Camp Nou or not?

I expect Barcelona to win. But they are not the team of Xavi and Iniesta era.

Barcelona have centre back issues too.

Panicked in January with 2 new centre backs. They have 6 now !! 🤪

Post-Messi Barcelona will be a very intriguing case study to witness.
