Turning it off now, both sides have been average, not much at all between them, United just got the rub of the green, on another day they could have lost this by 2 or 3

Ouch. Frank’s first game is Chelsea worst opening day result.

The whole weekend has been a bit meh. The Alisson injury has ruined it for me. Couldn’t give a flying fuck about today.

How was Maguire's tug on Abraham before the second goal not a foul?

    We shouldn't underestimate them.

That said, they were rather poor - we ought to beat them in third gear.

For me it's probably a shoot-out for 4th spot between Arsenal and United. Chelsea don't look to have many goals about them.

I actually rate Arsenal's chances higher than United's. Maguire is a slower centre-back. There's nothing inherently "wrong" with that, provided you're a low block team. But they have a weird hybrid approach whereby they want the front players to press, the midfield don't close the gap to the front well enough and the back-line isn't close enough to the midfield.

This leaves them open to sides who can pass quickly, especially one-two or through-ball counters. Not to mention that, whilst Maguire is certainly aerially dominant, you wouldn't fancy him in a situation where the ball is played along the floor. A text-book example from years ago would be a Gerrard through-ball to a rushing Torres - can anyone imagine Maguire dealing with that situation well? I can't.

The number of sides that cross the ball at height / lump it long to a target-man is going down (feels that way anyway, no doubt someone will provide evidence to suggest otherwise) and United's team currently looks like a side that is set up to defeat sides from the Nineties / early Noughties - which, given Solskjaer's Ferguson worship, is no real surprise really.

Chelsea were poor today. There will be other outfits (not necessarily expected to finish Top Six this season) that I feel will be a real handful for United. Arsenal's main issue is that they'll likely be similar to our 13/14 side - full of goals, but also terribly leaky. The question will be whether or not they can beat aside enough of the lower-mid table sides Home and Away.

United will be pleased with a clean sheet - think they only got two at Old Trafford last season. They're off to a confidence-building start, but I am cautiously optimistic that it's a False Dawn.
