However - why was it not used when a City player was hauled down in the box? This is the problem. When is VAR to be deployed. IF it is to be used on every decision it will become like American football...

    I fear for the game
Yeah I saw that incident. Definitely a penalty imo.

Cannot stand VAR. said at the beginning, it takes away that elation of the second a goal is scored, which is what the game is all about. Itís that feeling you get when your team scores a goal that keeps you going back for more.

Anyway, typical that VAR had clear evidence that we should not have conceded a penalty in midweek and yet it was still given. Utter farce.

That's the thing - I don't think that's what the sport is about at all. The sport doesn't exist for the sake of its entertainment value - that's a just a bonus. Of course, for practical reasons rules are changed to allow for more spectacle, but VAR is not a rule change - it's just a means of the current rules being applied better. In that way VAR is no different to the vanishing spray refs were given a few years back for free kicks.

No entertainment no fans and even more importantly to the clubs, no tv money

Yes, but my point is that entertainment value is secondary in sports to actual sporting achievements. Otherwise we might as well just watch the WWE or some form of ballet - there entertainment is key.

Football is the only entertainment some people have.

Klopp is certainly more entertaining than Hodgson

    Spot on mate.

Once we all get used to VAR, Ďgoalsí will be greeted with a silent stadium and players/fans staring at screens.

Certainly. But entertainment value comes from it being first and foremost a competition. It's not the other way around.
