Your team v Arsenal (League Cup)

    ..........................Kelleher

    Hoever.......Lovren........Gomez......Milner

    ..........................Lallana

    .................Oxlade..............Keita

    Elliott..............Brewster............Mane

I didn't want to send out a full-stength team after a physical game against Spurs (and prior to a League match against Villa, where we must keep the foot down, with City coming up) but equally I do want to see us progress / want to keep a few players that may play against Genk in mind.

Felt this was a suitable balance - an attack-minded centre, one of the front three getting to play and 3 of the back 4 rested.

Not the end of the World if we don't win (this is the "least important" Cup you might say and we can't take our eyes off our League campaign or Champion's League defence) but still really nice if we could carry on - lifting a trophy in January would be a huge morale injection for the squad ahead of the business months, plus we can apply a bit more pressure to Arsenal who are currently in a difficult spot (despite being "only" 4 points off 4th - turn 2 of those draws into wins and they'd be level with Leicester and Chelsea - they shouldn't panic yet) at present.

Would you go stronger again and get the job done? Or weaker to focus on Villa?

This team but swap Kelleher and Manč for Adrian and Origi. Arsenal are shite away from home and all the big guns can come on if we're chasing the game

That's about right. We'll need some kind of holding midfielder and Gini is more than capable. I wouldn't mind seeing Larouci getting some minutes at left back.

Not sure Hoever is available for this game with the Holland under 17's ?

Brewster, Origi and Elliott need to start this one as the front 3.

Ideally we need to not play any of the first 11 so the fullbacks will be Milner & ?

You're right Legs. Hoever definitely unavailable. I'd play Gomez at right back and stick Van den Berg in at CB.

CCTV: VvD limped off with a dead leg yesterday. I'd like him to be at home with his feet up on Wednesday.

Edit: that’s assuming VdB isn’t also with Holland, in which case, I’ll get my boots out!
