Also easier to do WHILE SUCCESSFUL as we are still very attractive to targets, plus we are (at some point) going to have to "renew" much of our team, as many are a similar age bracket - if we do it in a 1-or-2 in, 1-or-2 out way ON OUR TERMS it's a good long-term strategy.

Ferguson was excellent at this at United and if we follow a similar structure (but with the country's top sports analysts) we could be very successful for many years - the key is combining good purchases with excellent timing of sales.

Remember that Coutinho's departure (and the subsequent investment) catalysed our progress - if (huge if) we can repeat that trick again, I am all for it.
This type of selling has been the downfall of Arsenal.

Starting in 2005 when they sold Vieira at 29yo they have never recovered.

Like said after Salah being sold , where will we get the 20+ goals.

But as you rightly say 29yo prime Salah will go for big bucks. Zidane went for a world record 75m€ in early 2000s.

It's always a tricky one. Bergkamp, Totti, Gerrard, Scholes, Giggs staying till 35yo + with no resale.

If Salah were to leave he would only go to a few clubs that can pay £180m+

Perhaps Mbappe would be a better option than a 29yo Salah for those other clubs.

From a very good source in Germany:

Klopp and Liverpool favorite to get Dortmund-player Sancho.

Sancho wants to leave the club already in January

Just sayin like. JAF has absolutely no affiliation with LFC so he’s not saying what he wants to happen but what he thinks will happen.
I'd be surprised if we signed him, it's a very big fee and he seems to be behaving unprofessionally of late.

Last season Sancho got twice as many goals & assists as Keita got in Germany the season before he arrived at LFC. 32 v 16 combined.

Think the reported €140mill fee is too big a fee for what hes done so far.

Mbappe looks the safer bet and while both play in statistically weaker leagues, Mbappe has a better cl record, while I've not read about Mbappe being disruptive & unprofessional which Sancho has been reported as both.

Much more realistic than Mbappe, but is he a nailed on starter? who does he replace?...........deffo an exciting young player.
I've read Dortmund are willing to sell Sancho as hes behaved poorly, turning up late and being disruptive trying to force a move away from Dortmund.
Not exactly meeting the good egg standard.

We dont have to sell Salah but if we do sell him 2 years from now it'll be to regenerate the team.

The difference between us and arsenal or the cause for optimism is that since Klopp arrived we've been excellent in the transfer market.

I think Arsenals problem was that they got rid of pretty much all the experienced players in a short space of time, which left a leadership vacuum that they still haven't managed to fill.

Selling Salah at 29 years old for an astronomical fee and reinvesting that money would make sense, without the guarantee that whoever came in would be as effective. Whereas selling off the likes of Milner, Henderson, Gini etc for much smaller fees (because they aren't seen as shiny toys) would be a much bigger mistake because of their presence in the dressing room.
