"There are all sorts of rumours in England about who Manchester United are going to pick, Chelsea are going to pick."

"It's rather quiet here (at Liverpool) at the moment, I think it's safe to say. If you want to take it seriously and run a normal business and depend on income and have no idea how much you will earn... especially because we don't know when we can start playing with spectators again."

"At the moment, all clubs are losing money. Without spectators, we have to pay back the season tickets and probably sell none next year. At least maybe without the first 10 or 15 games. The VIP areas won't be packed and the tickets won't be sold. This will have an impact on other partners and things will look a bit different."

"Discussing with the players about things like salary waivers and on the other hand buying a player for £50-60m, we have to explain."

Why is that mate... why can’t people fret? Why does it worry you when others worry...?

    Don’t worry about it...
There are two things to worry about, either you are healthy or you are sick.

If you are healthy, then there is nothing
    to worry about.

But if you are sick there are only two things to
worry about, either you will get well or you will die.

    If you get
well, then there is nothing to worry about.

    But if you die there
are only two things to worry about, either you will go to
    heaven or to hell.

If you go to heaven, then there is nothing to
    worry about.

And if you to go hell, you'll be so darn busy
shaking hands with your friends you won't have time to worry...

"The bottom line is it’s definitely not the summer to be out of contract,” adds one agent. “I’ve heard some representatives arguing that being on a free will still put their clients in a good position; that clubs will not want to be seen to spend big money this summer, so picking up top-quality free transfers will become their priority and that can drive the wages on offer up. Maybe that will be the case at the very highest level, among elite players whose deals have expired. Fraser, for example, could still command a good wage, even if it might not be what he’d originally anticipated when he decided to run down his current deal.

“But a lot of top clubs will use COVID-19 and the lockdown as a means of taking more control of their finances, and to reduce their wage bill. The market has shifted. It has shrunk. Even now, talking to clubs, the wages that will be on offer are probably 20 to 25 per cent lower than we might normally have expected. There’ll be fewer places on offer in the lower leagues, particularly with the proposals on salary caps which could see clubs trimming squads, and the market will still be flooded by those released at the end of this season."

    - These are quotes from a Premier League agent.

Will be interesting to see how things pan out.

Think he's off on the wages factor. Werner on a wedge at Chelsea and we're looking to 'reward' Alisson and Virgil with new contracts. Clubs won't want to let players run their contracts down and free agents certainly won't suddenly accept mediocre wages when they know this is their one chance to make top dollar.
We hardly ever offer new signings big wages anyway, so shouldn't affect us that much.

Clubs will still pay what it takes to bring in a player who they believe will improve them, we might not see many £100m transfers but there'll be plenty of activity once the window opens.

Interestingly there doesn't seem to be any negative talk of Chelsea spending £50m on a player either.

Putting it down to getting more money at Chelsea is taking away from the fact he didn't fancy the challenge of getting a game at Liverpool.

Does anyone know what the income will be this or next season? No, because we are still waiting to see exactly how irrational government policy is going to be going forward.

Klopp has included this point in his message about signings. It's clearly a factor in decision making.

So, given this problem, are we hoping the club throws caution to the wind and spends big, fulfilling the fantasies of the most boyish supporters, or would we rather wait and see which clubs expose themselves financially to significant risk of bankruptcy in the quest to catch up with us?

    Very well put.

Like most, I'm disappointed that we're not seeing Werner in our kit next season, however, I was equally disappointed when the Fekir deal fell through - he's hardly blossomed into the world beater his figures for that one season pointed to.
I was over the moon when we brought in Andy Carroll who was looking unplayable before we signed him - again my radar was a little askew on that too.

Point being, if Klopp and the board catered to the fans then we'd be spunking millions over each latest shiny new player. As others have pointed out, this measured approach has got us this far, I'm happy sticking with it. Look at Spurs' massive downturn since they brought in all their new players.
