    April 8th 2008 - Liverpool 4 - 2 Arsenal, Champion's League Quarter-Final

Highlights of one of my favourite matches.

The Rafalution was very much in full swing.

1-1 in the first leg had been a decent result, as away goals seemed so important during a time where defensive stability in Europe was arguably more important than the current day, given some of the Managers around (Mourinho and Benitez had a lot to answer for) at the time.

We most likely came into the match thinking "clean sheet at Anfield, score a couple of goals ourselves, job done" but an early Diaby goal ripped up the script.

What unfollowed was a classic - a real shame we couldn't progress past Chelsea in the semi's in the end but it wasn't our year, though this was a time where I went into every Champion's League campaign believing we had a better chance than almost everyone, such was our defensive solidity, the power of Anfield, the belief in Benitez's tactics, peak-Gerrard's ability to pull a rabbit from a hat.

Another Reds follower kindly let me watch this match at his flat - where I was staying I lived with a couple of Manc followers and with one TV in the place and them ruling the telly with a literal iron fist and me being unable to drive at the time, seeing games was tricky enough. Going back to see two seething "that was never a penalty" faces was an absolute scream.

A great evening all-round. What a team that was. I really wish I had a Time Machine and we'd had better owners as I think Benitez could have taken us anywhere if we'd had squad depth - but am utterly delighted we have Klopp these days.

Speaking of, Thomas Doll resigned his post as Dortmund coach in the 07/08 season, to be replaced by The Normal One.

Remember the game well. What a side we had!
Hyypia, Alonso, Masch, Gerrard, Torres, Ryan Babel - still playing, and porn star on the bench.
    Thanks for the memory.
