Or maybe the guilt of turning a blind eye to where their wages, money and success came from will be too much to handle....????

You would think that some of the Oligarchs might be thinking ...fuk u Putin things are running quite smoothly...why rock the boat?...

But putin already covered any dissent with episodes like sailsbury.....Imho

How does one be part of a leaders inner circle, whilst staying out of that country over fear of said leader ?

He knows that it's ultimately "just" sport today and credit to him.

We all adore Football and it's nice to rhyme off a certain Shankly quote about it being more important than Life or Death but we all know that war, famine, poverty, the threat of violence and so on are much bigger and that Football is distraction/escape.

Kudos to him for touching on a human vein given the context. People like the Ukrainian President and Vladimir Klitschko are on the streets in protective military equipment defending their freedom and millions of people over history have fought for freedom so that we are in the luxurious position of getting stressed about some millionaires kicking a ball to determine who holds a shiny object in their possession for a year.

Hope there are some Ukrainian flags on show today and that this crisis isn't too prolonged or violent. Life is hard enough without the prospect of creeping towards a major War.

We won a league and champions league whilst there were active wars.

Prince Harry bravely protecting freedoms. Whilst Putin is defending Russian freedoms. There should be some rise in freedoms with all this fighting.

Under uefa rules, it is an offence punishable with hefty enough fines to fly a Palestinian flag.
You can see which regions endorse & condemn out pourings in press or social media packets.

Ukraine has been a political football. The fact political leaders all round enabled and promoted this outcome, should not detract from the human spirit more generally.

It took some risk for Shankly to say what he did as it offends people who cannot comprehend the truth he spoke.
Twoshoes as far as I see it, has said nothing at all. I expect Klopp and many more of our celebrities to interject similarly.

Very bad, invalid, lazy and dare I say it (...and with all due respect),...silly analogy.

Are you actually drawing an across the board equalavence between FSG (or American billionaire owners of British football clubs writ large) on the one hand, with Russian Oil barons and Oligarch's (a.l.a. Roman at Chelsea) or with the Middle Eastern Oil barons/state-owned billionaire holding companies on the other?

Do you really (STILL)need it pointed out to you how and where this comparison fails spectacularly?

This is beneath of your usual standards.
    Do better.

And what "Russian Freedoms" are those exactly that The Ukrainians are threatening (by their mere existence as Putin's neighbours) that have spurred him to open-endedly invade their country, or that even remotely justifies himdoing so?

Because as of the current count stands Russinas have actualy LOST more of their freedoms rather than gained, any from this invasion.
(specifically economic and their ability to intermingle with the rest of the global human community vis-a-vis sports events and other cultural events, as well as some very real domestic freedoms (which they never really had to begin with) like the ability to protest his actions ostensibly being done in their name).

And they stand to lose even more by the time these...."military operations" are done given the current rate of decline of their Ruble and their Economy, and what measures Putin will put in the aftermath to mask all that.

I never really expected that this would be a place we'd find anyone making invasion apologetics or justifications for Putin's actions, but if ever there were, somehow I'm not surprised its coming from you.

    Seriously mate, poor show.
    All around.

The Russians in the two separatist states in Ukraine have been denied the right to vote on their freedom for 8 years. Zelensky also recently passed a ‘Ukrainian only’ language law, deliberately marginalising them.

They have also been abused by bombing attacks over those 8 years which has lead to the deaths of if I remember 130 + people, including children, at the hands of the most corrupt state in, at least, Europe. A clearing house for global corruption.

Putin said ‘I will defend Russians wherever they are’, which is the major part of his motivation, although I’ve seen it reported almost nowhere.
