I think our style of play hasn't helped with injuries . we play long to wide areas a lot of the time and then try and run and press deep. to try and catch the opposition on the back foot. means you have to sprint a lot and that causes a lot of muscles injuries.
We struggle to break teams down when we played more of a possession games. I think a bit of both styles is the answer.
I was getting fed up of us constantly seeing us pinging balls to the wide attackers and it being easily dealt with. by fullbacks.
then if your midfield doesn't get the press right teams run right through the centre.
I think we probably run more than any other team. its gonna effect the players bodies. I love Jurgen and wish he wasn't leaving. I just think he got it wrong on the 5 subs thing as well.
Hopefully we can go back to a more 4/3/3 and use our fullbacks better. So someone has to tell Trent not to drop into the middle. Good luck with him listening.
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

We haven’t been constantly knocking up balls to the wide attackers this season, we’ve done it maybe 2 or 3 times in some games. We did that when we played both wide players up on the shoulder making runs in behind & it was on to release them and the full back or mid their side was already in a good position to support that ball to pick up any second ball if it didn’t come off

Well the wide forwards have been played deeper & have been dropping for a ball to feet far too much for the most part, & we only have Trent & Virgil who can play those passes, although without the runs in behind the others haven’t had an opportunity to show if they can play them or not

We’ve done most of our unnecessary sprinting through:

Not remaining in good pressing & counter pressing positions or doing it as well as we used to, so have to make up the ground

Having too many players trying to be in space for a nothing 4 yard ball for their stats and not enough picking up to prevent the opposition playing out & countering if a move breaks down allowing them to counter & play through us too easily & having to do long sprints back towards our own area

Which is doubley annoying as we’ve had lots of times having too many players in areas has seen them get in each others way, causing the attack to break down

I don’t think I’ve seen this team turned around through the opposition playing out & transitioning far too easily as many times in the prior 4 seasons combined as I have this season and also getting caught playing out

I hope we rekindle our interest in Nico Williams at Bilbao, he can play LFWD RFWD LAM RAM & he looks to have developed again from last season which was his first full season at Bilbao, his physical stature has improved considerable without any loss of agility he assists more than he scores right now, but in a set up like ours present & future, I’m certain his goals would increase as he’s used as more of a provider at Bilbao

He has great pace, agility, skill & athleticism & something we’ve desperately lacked in our forward line since Mane had Covid that priceless ability to be able to stand & slow the opposition player up, then go & leave them for dead, giving them an opportunity to score or create, that ability really is priceless

Bilbao appear to use him wider more as a creator but when you look at his goals, they are from when he has come inside and gone inside or outside the defender(s) to get half a yard & fire home, really good goals too, Mane and Mo coming inside on their left or right type goals from those positions, so if he is employed in a system when he gets in those positions a lot more……….well you’d think

Really good 6 and a CB for me. We need to start keeping clean sheets and take it from there. We have been bloody awful at defending this season

We’re targeting those areas first and a No8 to replace Thiago I think looking at the rumour mills

In the system Slot employs he uses the type of player Williams is in those LFWD & RFWD roles and he’s very good on either side, much better than Slot’s Feyenoord boys who are both really talented & skilful and our front line desperately needs that, he remind me a little of Doku & Mane, he’s not going to get bullied by defenders he looks an exceptional talent about to explode, some of his skills are really quite majestic

What’s really telling when you see his highlights from this season so far, is almost everytime he receives the ball, 2 or 3, sometimes 4 opposition players are quickly getting to him & he leaves them all for dead a few times, he is a player like Mane & Mo used to be in that teams have to commit at least 2 players to try & defend him, we absolutely need a forward like that in our team again People seem to forget the space teams having to double up on both Mane & Mo used to create

It really matters, to me at least

Think how many times we relied solely on Nunez at times to move and disturb opposition defences & cause a bit of chaos, because we know longer have a Mane or Mo who both used to better than him at it and were both on the pitch together & both caused far more chaos in a regularly more productive way, because of their skills sets and created space for others just through teams doubling up on them

Were absolutely crying out to have that type of player back in our side we miss it massively

I would have liked a LB as competition for Robbo in place of Tsimi, we need a new LB for the long term & one that will really push Robbo to raise his game again & bring something more I really like the Hartman lad at Feyenoord he has had a serious knee injury though & is set to miss the Euros & most likely the start of the season so I’m guessing all interested parties will likely cool their interest & see how well he recovers from the injury over next season

All the CBs were linked with look quality, the Pacho lad looks a top talent, I’m wondering if they see him as a replacement for Virgil after next season & that’s where the rumours of signing him & letting him stay there next season negotiations are coming from

He must be very highly regarded by them
