Just noticed that Man City got beaten in the League Cup.

So we're still on 9 to their 8 - making us the record holders (for now) - which is nice.

On the negative it means there's a decent chance of Newcastle winning it (booo!!!) or Man United becoming 6-time winners (booooooo!!!!!)

Is it still x2 legs ?
That will be good to give Man U and Newcastle x2 intense games, injuries and so on.
Then if they both get to the final.

This season is the hangover from last season of intensity.
Premier league challenge up until the last 20mins of the season.
    League Cup final
    Fa cup final
    CL final.
That was some season , 63 games.
    Many huge high pressure games.
Then they had to pick themselves up.
    Internationals.
    About a 2 week break.
    And do it all again.
This is a huge part of this season's problems.
    Let's not forget that.

    It is.

Ideally one of them reaches the Final and loses whilst the other gets knocked out in the semis.

Man United making the Final and losing to Southampton would suit just fine (unless they face each other in the semi, haven't looked up the draw) and I wouldn't mind Man United squeaking past Barcelona in the Europa League either provided they don't end up eventually inning the thing.

Champion's League "races" are bloody difficult slogs mentally - nultiple teams involved so you are keeping an eye in so many fixtures featuring other teams. With a title race it's usually 2 sides - sometimes 3 but one usually drops away.

Big weekend for us with the Manchester derby but I had taken my off of Arsenal playing Spurs as well. I'm not confident of the Brighton fixture but the (potential) reward if we win and other results go our way would provide a very valuable lift of spirits.

    Ever optimistic
But realistic , on current form and injuries, and age it looks against Liverpool to get 4th.
Man u and hag look on the up. Ronaldo gone that has put them focused again.

Newcastle and howe performances have been very good since last January.
£140m+ on players . And don't have Europe.
    Only the league Cup distraction.

Spurs are spurs. Conte one minute looking to get them in the CL.
Next minute saying he's not sure how long he'll stay.
Chelsea , splashing the cash , Sterling seems past it already at 27.
End of contracts jorginho kante. Fall out with mendy the gk. Thiago Silva their best defender at 38yo alongside 45yo koubaly.
Harry Potter not sure up to the task of a 'big' club with higher expectations than mid table.

    Arsenal City sure things.

So 3rd and 4th Newcastle Manu Spurs Liverpool and I suppose Chelsea.

The others will slack off once they get to the magic 40 points.

I watched that game and it was a combination of City playing poorly and Southampton taking it to them the entire game and not sitting back. Second goal for the Saints was a beauty.

City played most of the game with a reserve side, probably mindful of the Derby game at the weekend.

Actually they did not. They had Coleman and Phillips in the midfield and Gomez in at left back and a reserve keeper as expected. Rest of the team were typical starters. Pep subbed on Rodri, Haaland, KDB, and Ake. They still only managed a single shot on target.
