That's a little too easy for me.

Larger funds would be nice, but there are staff at the club employed for recruitment and decision-making about which players should stay, which should leave, which contracts to extend and so on. How wisely or foolishly we use the allocated funds likely can't all be laid at the door of one person I should think.

For example - I rate Núñez highly, but did a club that played with a false nine strike badly need to spend £65m+ on a striker, who isn't the finished article, knowing we had gaps elsewhere? Could the combined £15m on Arthur Melo, Carvalho and Ramsey have been better spent? Did the Gakpo signing make the most sense as the area to strengthen at the time that we did?

It's an over-simplification to say that every single squad issue is down to FSG’s frugal investment policy. I very much doubt that John Henry, Tom Werner et al do the decision-making as to where we prioritise the improvement of the squad.

Since last summer we’ve spent about £105m on a combo of attackers where the jury remains out on how naturally they compliment each other. Meanwhile those making the decisions around recruitment will oversee us letting the likes of Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain go for free - and there was an offer for Ox.

Sporting Director/recruitment area definitely needs looking at. If we know we have a frugal methodology then those employed under it need to be doing their jobs.

If we take the £120m or so spent over the last year plus add the potential cash gained from selling a couple of lads at the right time (Ox, Phillips, whoever else) then that could definitely have covered the purchase of a couple of very good midfielders, or a couple of cheaper scouting gems and a better value attacker. Lads like Caicedo (pre-Brighton move) and Kvaratshkeila (spelling?) are out there and we need to employ the very best we can manage in key areas.

More money would be great - of course it would - but we need to much better with the funds we have. Bob Paisley's "let them lose their legs on someone else's pitch" quote comes to mind - Fergie's Man United side were largely pretty good at knowing when to sell.

Your third paragraph. True, it's not all down to that. Mistakes have been made by Klopp and his team, there's no getting away from that but in their defence it's also difficult and pretty much impossible to maintain the run that we had with transfers.
The market was perfect for sales and we were making good money on bang average players plus we had a great spell where almost every transfer was gold or it atleast made a telling contribution.
I also think there's definitely been an element of complacency from both and it's obviously caught them out.

To think we've all thought we haven't strengthened the midfield was because we we're buying Jude this summer, is right kick in the balls for us all. And it wasn't just Liverpool supporters who thought he was signing.
    It's all a bit odd.

Absolutely mate. The thing that's the most annoying is what I said on Tuesday. That whilst they haven't ever confirmed anything they did nothing to dispell the thoughts and links with him.
