Club set to appeal Van Dijk's red card

Surely they have to? Plenty of grounds on the basis Brook can't possibly predict that it would be a goalscoring opportunity

I think it wouldn't get overturned.
For several reasons. I think Virgil told the ref to go and fuck himself, before having to be almost physically escorted off. So some are even saying that in itself is a reason to make sure he gets punished.
Most pundits thought it was a red, although many agreed that at first you couldn't even tell it was a foul.
Mark Clattenburg came out initially and said it wasn't a red. then the next day he said 'having slept on it', he thought it actually was a red. So some refs need 24 hours to come to a decision.
I think it is risking Virgil getting quite a long ban if we appeal it. It seems a bit unclear how long he is due to be banned at the moment. Some say its three games for a straight red. others say just one game because it wasn't aggressive or dangerous play.
Also some ridiculously lenient refereeing in that game. Joelinton foul after foul, no booking. Gordon and Trippier waving cards in the air trying to get Trent sent off. Joelinton even pointed to the refs red card in his pocket after the Virgil tackle (you can clearly see it on the video clips).
You think to overturn two in a row is not going to happen, makes the ref look stupid.

Doubt that would get overturned. We think it's harsh but there's plenty who think it's legit.

We'd have been absolutely fuming if it happened against us and a red card wasn't produced. Absolutely guaranteed!

Have to say it looks like a trap. Why appeal..?

Harsh - yes - but we just had another one (admittedly a ridiculous one) overturned and we all know how this works. IF they overturn this one.. we will get literally nada for the rest of the season...if it fails Virgil misses more games..

    Strange

And that’s exactly what’s so annoying jozza, you can absolutely guarantee in that situation there wouldn’t be a red card if it was an opposition defender against our player.

Well he’s been charged as well so it looks like we’ll miss him for more than 1 game.

Virgil Van Dijk has been charged with a breach of FA Rules following Liverpool’s game against Newcastle — It’s alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official.

You know, you just know they are going to shaft us at every single opportunity.

As if it’s not enough they send our players off if they even think there’s a remote chance of it sticking.

The abuse referees take week in week out that’s never ever mentioned.
