Why are we so pish at tackling, we are so inept at it and its so painful to watch …

Is it just me, or are we so concerned about giving away needless free kicks that we simply forget to do the basics of tackling properly…

Even when we appear to be favourites to win the ball we simply end up losing the tackle, our attempts are so feeble its bloody embarrassing…

We need to fucking man up or consider re-employing James Milner as our new tackling coach … because at the moment its a fucking joke…and if we are not careful, opposing teams will soon cotton on, and start bullying us and we all know thats not good… and how costly that might be in the long run..

    Rant over..

Great result, but not a good performance, we really got out of jail today…

Our midfield skillset has changed and it will feel "off" for a bit.

We got very accustomed to a unit that was incredibly disciplined without the ball.

We now have a midfield that are "ballers" as some like to say who will probably offer more in terms of possession, one-twos, disguised passes and penetrative through-balls, sacrificing some of our solidify en route. The effect is magnified when these players don't have Firmino and Mane ahead of them.

    It's different.

If you tackle these days you've more chance of getting sent off. Plus You never see a good old fashion 50/50 and when you do it always gets a big cheer.

There were two incidents today at Newcastle where Brentford players made excellent tackles taking the ball cleanly, the opponent went to ground in in both incidents holding his imaginary war wound, while the crowd bayed for a yellow card.

The ref swallowed it both times, awarding free kicks to the home side in both incidents, thankfully stopping short of yellows.

Tackling has all but gone out of the game, ask our two lads who’ve already had red cards this season

    Pathetic

Hmmm he’s the one who was red carded for merely smiling at the referee, arms out wide and saying “ref, what’s going on?”

We play a pressing and counter pressing game, when it's played properly, our players are supposed to be all very astute and consistently well positioned to be able to 'nick' the ball of the opposition, without going to ground, mostly block tackles and holding players up for a team mate to nick it off the opponent, either taking it on themselves or toe poking it to another of our players

When it's done properly it's brilliant, and it is a good system for us especially because it's very well known that we play to a different set of rules to all other teams and if we give officials any excuse whatsoever to give something against us, they almost certainly gleefully will, so staying on our feet unless the press is broken and we have to go to ground makes absolute perfect sense

We do need to be better in our block tackling and positioning to support the ball, we've been too weak in a few block tackles so far this season, and if we did what Brighton players do expertly, have a player effectively supporting the ball so another can be a lot firmer in the tackle knowing if it gets away from them and the opposition player, it will go to the player supporting

I remember Hendo getting lambasted by our fans for an absolutely expert tackle on Valencia, making no contact whatsoever with the player, who threw himself to ground and the filthy getting a penalty courtesy of Howard Webb against us and even when our fans saw that Hendo had won it perfectly cleanly, he apparently should have known better than to present them any opportunity to give a wrong un against us

The tackle was like the one they used to show that Lawro made, slides down alongside the player, turning out the foot to prod the ball away just at the right time without touching the player

(our) players can't afford to take the risk of a shite/bent referee giving a penalty
