Money, money, money it’s rich mans world…

Out of sheer boredom yesterday and desperately trying not to get too upset watching all the Jurgen Klopp farewell videos, I just decided to check out a few of the numbers relating to the financial spending comparison between Liverpool FC and Man City, since Mansour purchased City back in 2008, rather than since Pep actually took over.

My rationale is the fact that what went on before Pep arrived, imho significantly contributes to the impact of Peps tenure to date….

    First 3 years of ownership..

    Man City (08/09 - 09/10 - 10/11) Net spend £ 392M. Liverpool same period Net Spend £ 16M.

I am not listing every year until Pep took over, but the total numbers for that period are as follows…

    Man City ( 08/09 to 15/16 ) Net Spend £ 788M. Liverpool same period Net spend £ 237M.

Klopp arrived in Oct 2015 and Pep arrived in Feb 2016, so following numbers relate to their first 3 seasons commencing 15/16.

    Pep ( 15/16 - 16/17 - 17/18 ) Net spend £548M. Klopp same period Net spend £20M.

The following 3 seasons are as follows…

    Pep ( 18/19 - 19/20 - 20/21 ) Net spend £ 229M. Klopp same period Net spend £ 170M.

The following 3 seasons are as follows…

    Pep ( 21/22 - 22/23 - 23/24 ) Net spend £ 172M. Klopp same period Net Spend £ 233M.

So the total Net spend for Pep actually equates to £949M and Klopps total Net spend equates to £ 413M.

If we now list the total spend Gross and Net for both teams since 2008/09 Sheik Mansour purchased Man City, the numbers are as follows….

    Man City ( 08/09 - present ) Total £2,577B Net £ 1.596B. LFC same period Total £1.623B Net £ 625M

These numbers have been taken from the same reputable website and the numbers have been rounded up and down, and there is a slight overlap of numbers relating to season 15/16 but this isn't a completely forensic appraisal, more a low resolution overview, but it still paints a very clear picture.

Jurgen Klopp has without doubt using a bixing analogy, been boxing a far heavier opponent and in effect he has had, at times, both hands tied behind his back whilst doing so…..

Not only that, he has experienced no end of bad luck on and off the pitch and some truly god awful baffling and costly refereeing decision, and yet despite all of this, he was still only four games away from achieving a further 2 more UCL titles and a further 2 more Premier League titles to add to his already fantastic collection.

What he has achieved on and off the pitch here and equally the level of respect he has here and around the World is testimony to him as a fantastic human being, you Sir are an absolute credit to your parents and your family and Germany.

What a Manager, what a man, what a legacy he leaves behind..he truly is right up there amongst the greats of this amazing Club, the legendary memories he has provided to us during his time here, will never be forgotten and will be cherished for generations to come…

Love you Jurgen, and Ulla now and always… you can rest now and know that you have made the people happy, your Mum and Dad will undoubtedly be so proud…

Thanks and good luck and may you and your family be blessed with good health and happiness in the future..
