    Ooooh, shout!

Who does at their expense? I think most have Man City, Arsenal and ourselves in the Top Four (no particular order) and one other - you thinking Newcastle?

    Revised table after Fulham result.

    Spurs

    3/4/8/13/14/17/18/19/20

    Man City in comparison :

    2/6/7/9/12/13/15/18/30

    Arsenal in comparison :

    1/2/8/10/11/13/15/16/19

    LFC in comparison :

    1/5/6/7/9/10/12/16/19

I guess once we have reached the midway point we will all have a better idea of how things are actually going to pan out, but I think this year its going to be closer than ever, especially if everyone guns for Man City.

I think with Newcastle are in the mix, Chelsea are also starting to come good, genuinely not sure about Utd but its going to make for an interesting watch thats for sure …

An inescapable truth for Man United is they're about to play Man City - which means the very real prospect of potentially finishing the weekend having lost 5 of their opening 10 League games.

    For once, I hope not.

Wow just watching Friday night football and realised that Crystal Palace (10th) are another team in the bottom 9, then they play Chelsea (11) and then Wolves (12)

so that makes their first twelve games are as follows….

    Spurs

    2/3/8/10/11/12/13/14/17/18/19/20

Thats an incredibly kind opening run of fixtures for big Ange….

I think maybe Villa or Brighton will get top four.
I'm watching Palace against Spurs right now, just as I write Spurs go one up with an own goal.
Don't think they've got much of a wider squad.
Don't think they've played really tough teams, and we should have beaten them on their own patch.
Also I notice that they go down for a foul when they lose the ball, like the way Newcastle do. Do you think that comes from the manager, who seems like an ok guy, or is it a culture in the dressing room.?

I think their next game is November 6th so if we were to win our next two (the second of which is November 5th) we'd likely be temporarily ahead of them on goal difference.

Credit to them - 8 wins, 2 draws and a loss is an excellent start - and they have no Europe which may help keep injuries down - but I still think squad depth will cost them as the season goes on (February-to-May particularly) and that they have had a pretty kind fixture list.

If they have serious ambitions of pulling off an unexpected title win (I don't pay the table too much heed until 12/13 games in as a third is a decent barometer to me) then I think they would need to pull away - we all know how capable Man City are of winning 16-18 of the last 19 games of a season.

Using Bob's data - only correcting his last post re city... they played 3rd place arsenal not 2nd, and they played 20th not 30th

    When spurs were 4th

Top4 - Spurs City Arsenal Liverpool

SoR -Sum of rank after 9 games -> the higher = weaker opp.
    Ao^ - AverageOf^^^ rounded to 0.1 for table
A-19 - Expected Ave for league position after 19 games - the nature of your league position impacts your SoR
+/- .. the difference + easier & - harder fixtures based on ranks

    Stat - S - C - A - L
    Stat --- S ------ C ------ A ----- L
    SoR - 114 -- 102 --- 97 --- 88
    Ao^ - 12.7 - 11.3 - 10.8 -- 9.8
    A19 - 10.84 - 11 - 10.95 - 10.89
    +/- ... +1.8 .. +0.3 .. -0.2 . -1.1

    When spurs went top

    Stat --- S ------ C ------ A ----- L
    SoR -- 116 - 103 -- 95 ----- 85
    Ao^ - 12.9 - 11.4 - 10.6 --- 9.4
    A19 - 11 - 10.95 - 10.89 - 10.84
    +/- ... -1.9 .. +0.5 .. -0.3 ... -1.4

    The +/- difference
    Stat - S ----- C ------ A ------- L
    ...... -0.1 _ -0.2 _ +0.2 _ +0.3

    Summary.

When spurs went top, and adjusting for league positions, our fixtures got tougher, arsenal similarly but less so.

Cities got easiest, and in equal magnitude to Arsenal's change. Spurs got harder but least impacted of all 4

Adjusting for league position is important

Cities got easiest, and Spurs fixtures got easier too.
