I believe it's entirely up to the player selected.

Yes they can face sanction in extreme cases (as Matip almost did in 2016 for not going to AFCON) - but even then it's for tournament call ups and any suspensions could only last for the tournament duration - so it most likely it wouldn't affect European players even for qualifiers... at least in terms of league football.

Konate - nursing an injury could have simply said he would rather not risk it and that would have been probably that.

A lad that was made under this football and Klopp......

Doubt he'd have got far if he stayed at hull OR left to another club.... ofc

his time is coming to a end you feel.. well I do, others think he's the best LB in the world, done great and it's a tricky position to be fair to upgrade on, not many top quality LB's out there, i'd take the guy at leverkusen even if he's 28.

Yep - he has probably done the same amount of damage to his body in 6 years here at Liverpool that many of his peers have done in 10. So much of what we achieved was on the back of his legs. Relentless for looong loong spells. You know that so many opposition right sided attackers and defenders looked at the team sheet and thought - SHYTE - Robbo... Going to have to be on it from minute 1 to the end or I am getting done..

Hopefully this latest setback is brief.

His pace and energy will be what goes and the process has likely started.

I think he has 2 years left on his deal after this one?

Could foresee him seeing out his contract and then maybe getting a bit of a change of pace elsewhere where he can still contribute and be loved by fans - he loves Celtic so it wouldn't surprise me if that was his destination after us.

In my opinion his style of play has changed over the years. At one time, early in his career here, he would regularly attack the byline and send over crosses. He rarely does that any more. That could be down to his energy levels having dropped.
