Yep - especially this time of year. People forget we were very fortunate with injuries tor well over a year and we took 97 and 99 points. Last relatively injury free season and we almost did a quad.

It's a crying shame for sure but he did have hip surgery - that's usually a huge wait. Virgil missed 254 days with a cruciate ligament tear. Thiago was always a delicate player. Shame he didn't get to play too often with players better at controlling the ball..

In hindsight (at this moment in time) it may seem to have been best to get some dosh for him BUT Klopp had the chance and chose to keep him. He is by a distance our best technician, he could prove crucial in winning things later on this season. The available team we have right now is unlikely to get us over the line. Great win v Arsenal but - we saw the game.. Unless some key players return - and Thiago IS one - we could well come up short.

Lest we forget - March last year

Football calender is destroying players. Won't be surprised if teams are allowed to have a 50 tram roster a season so that UEFA/Fifa could get in 200 games in 365 days per team.

Was just thinking the Fifa Club WC started out as the Totota Cup a once of play off between SA and Europe in Japan. So it was something like Audi Cup type of pre season friendly sponsor backed tournament. Now it is going to be a 32 team 1 month tournament. So in 4 years a player will play 1WC (now 48 teams soon will be 100 teams,) don't trust fifa 1 Continental Cup, 1 CWC, extended CL x 4.

So besides domestic action. That player could play about 50 or so games in 4 years so that equates to about 1 seasons Football at a bigger club. So technically over that 4 years a player would have played equivalent to 5 seasons of football but crammed into 4. O forgot about Nationas League.

No time off short breaks after tournaments. So players ate going to be sidelined a lot.

I agree on some points and not on others.. the issue with Thiago is the chance of him ever being fit again to play is less than slim even if he does. be out again for a long period. we need an extra midfielder. we are 1 short in that area in my opinion

Well I agree with everything you say here. Was just saying that hip surgery is a long one. Klopp could have cashed in. Must have felt in the summer and so far this Jan that he is worth more to us now. Only time will tell

Posted the injuries from last term just to remind everyone just how bad it was. Everyone was blaming the midfield in isolation - something I had often questioned - but the truth was deeper. A shattered side devoid of any pre season following a 63 game marathon then saw our evolving front line without any time to gel before Diaz and Jota were done.. That and the number of games Matip and Konate missed was huge too. As the injuries dried up - so the form improved.

    Look at this little lot

March 28, 2023 Games missed per Liverpool player

    Luis Diaz – 28

    Diogo Jota – 24

    Arthur – 24

    Calvin Ramsay – 21

    Naby Keita – 21
    Ibrahima Konate – 18

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 14

    Curtis Jones – 14

    Thiago – 14
    Joel Matip – 13

    Roberto Firmino – 11

    Caoimhin Kelleher – 9

    Virgil van Dijk – 6

    James Milner – 6

    Jordan Henderson – 6

    Fabio Carvalho – 5

Darwin Nunez – 7 (3 due to suspension)

    Andy Robertson – 4

    Joe Gomez – 4

    Stefan Bajcetic – 3

    Trent Alexander-Arnold – 2

    Kostas Tsimikas – 2

    Fabinho – 2
    Alisson – 1
(Mohamed Salah – 0
Cody Gakpo – 0
Harvey Elliott – 0

Robertson will be doing FULL sessions at the end of this month.

That will mean contact training. He will likely have been able to keep his cardiovascular fitness pretty high by using an exercise bike or whatever - it's not difficult to lean back (arms free) and cycle away - so once he has a couple of successful contact sessions he could be back really fast.

Having him back for early-to-mid February would be brilliant, especially if Tsimikas is back quickly too.

Gomez would then be free to get the odd rest, cover right-back and cover centre-back.

If we come out of the next 5-7 games looking good with results and lads coming back from injury, we can have some serious fun this season.
