Maybe you should start a thread about it, instead of polluting every other thread. See how much traction you get.

Call it something like LFC Bot replaced by LFC Jock.

The reason open mics work in Rugby and other sports is because players are sportsmen/women and respect the referee.

There was an experiment done in 1989 for Arsenal vs Millwall where the ref was mic'd up for the game. That's long before VAR kiddies. It was a disaster and has never happened again.

That's a very weak argument. It is typical of the authorities rationalisation for no transparency with VAR.

The arsenal players didn't know about the referee wearing a microphone back in 1989. That's you reason for why VAR can't be broadcast and transparent.

The article you posted suggests it was done again recently. Did you not read the article ?

The referees in rugby typically tell the players to go away when communicating with the video referees.

My mind is made up that rugby has it right, whereas football authorities scramble for excuses to keep the process from being transparent.

It was done once in the Austrilian league for a refs final game. Very different circumstances from refeering a Premier League game. But you know that and are trying to use deflection. The main body of the article is about the 1989 Arsenal v Millwall.

It's actually a better experiment if they players didn't know the ref was mic'd up. That way you get to see their true colours. Like Tony Adams calling the ref a cheat and then acting like a child when called out on it.

I've already explained why open mics works in Rugby and other sports but not soccer. It's due to respect for the ref that doesn't exist in football. The article proves it.

None of those are weak arguments. They are baesd on fact. Unlike your argument which is that it makes it easier to cover things up. That's more "connect the dots" stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to see open mics in soccer matches but I know the history and therefore understand why it's not done that way. Maybe one day when they players mature a bit and the tech has been around a bit longer in soccer it will happen. It won't stop the loons shouting conspiracy though every time a ref refuses to give a penalty. That will just be another dot in their head. Also known as confirmation bias, for the poster who wanted to discuss unconscious bias but fell at the first hurdle.
