Cheating Spaniards?
I watched the MotoGP earlier today, having loved motorcycles all my life, and enjoying watching bike racing.
Today's MotoGP was in Barcelona (Catalunya circuit).
Background to today's race:
Marc Marquez is Spanish and rides for Honda Racing, the official Honda MotoGP team.
Prior to today, he was leading the World Championship by something like 15-20 points (winning rider is awarded 25 points per MotoGP, second is awarded something like 20 points, 16 points for third, and so on).
Three of his nearest rivals in the championship were/are Andrea Dovizioso (Italy - Ducati), Valentino Rossi (Italy- Yamaha) and Maverick Vinales (Spain - Yamaha).
Marquez's team-mate in the Honda team is Jorge Lorenzo, also Spanish.
Second lap today, Lorenzo crashes out, also taking out Dovizioso, Rossi and Vinales.
Result - easy win for Marquez, now 37 points clear of Dovizioso, and on course to take his second or third consecutive World Championship.
Marquez is a superb rider, don't get me wrong, he might turn out to be the GOAT.
But, if the three riders Lorenzo took out had continued, there would have been a much closer finish (Marquez won by something like 5 seconds - a massive gap in this sport) and the championship would have been much closer.
Cheating Spaniards? Who knows?
