Liverpool made it 24 games unbeaten in all competitions for the first time since 1989, and 20 Premier League matches without defeat, but such details will be little consolation for Jürgen Klopp after his side squandered a two-goal lead against Brighton. Graham Potter’s visitors fought back with style and belief in their methods to claim a merited draw at Anfield.
Klopp’s team opened in the same incisive, clinical vein that humiliated Manchester United last weekend with Roberto Firmino irresistible in the pockets of space that he was able to find seemingly at will. Brighton’s contribution to a flowing contest was highly impressive, however. The visitors never deviated from their positive approach, even when trailing 2-0 to Jordan Henderson’s and Sadio Mané’s goals, and richly deserved to reach half-time with renewed hope. Leandro Trossard’s second-half strike, following Enock Mwepu’s first Premier League goal, brought hope to fruition.
