And here we are again, not his finest game at all or anything like it, but, without Mane's movement to run in behind and stop, to move Ben White and open the channel for Jota, we don't score the first goal, it's as good as an assist, he created that channel of space for Jota to run through and Thiago to pass through

Hendo had an opportunity to win a ball by tackling, in a more central area and closer to goal.
His mental decision was to pull out when he could have little effect in any other way, other than by challenging the arsenal lad.
The arsenal lad had hesitated due to the position our other players were holding, but hendo gave up, before realising he shouldn't have given up.
By whoscored algorithm only Mane 6.4 scored lower than Hendos 6.5 of our 11 starters.
Both manifested little by the way of positive, objective impacts on the game.
Whereas, studying the finer points of the game, Mane's movement to move Ben White and open the channel for Jota created the opportunity for our first goal to be scored, which without Mane's deliberate clever movement wouldn't have been possible

Yep, and robbo who came second in the tackles&intercepts 7, go the other assist.
It's almost like there's a connection between working hard and being lucky.
If mane wasn't so lazy last night, he'd have scored the opener.
A point you seemingly agreed with last night. But now hendos on the line, needs must.
I'd contend had he not been so lazy, and cold, he'd likely have scored from trents ball over the top too.
His run is the very minor part of Thiagos pass and Jotas goal.
Jota had done well to get inside of Cedric? Iirc and beat the keeper at his near post.
Not surprised you need to take away from Jota and Thiago.
As outlined with Fab v Rodri you take what you need dependent on which players are in question.
I'd bench Thiago in my best 11 for Hendo & Fab.
Both below Thiago on the whoscored algorithm just for starts.
But I can at least call out poor performances by players. It helps when you like them all and want them each to succeed.
Then the game is just about form and merit.
It's not a minor part, it's a crucial and critical part, without the movement to open the channel, that goal doesn't happen, there's no 2 ways about it
Mane should have done better with Trent's ball over the top, got in front of the defender making sure the ball was on his left so he could take a touch which wouldn't enable the defender to make a challenge
"If Everton were playing at the bottom of my garden, i'd close the curtains”
The crucial part is Jota losing his man Cedric and finding space, Thiago providing the pass and Jota scoring.
Mane is being marked by his guy, who comes over to deal with Jota who'd found the space and the finish.
Mane also spent an eternity in an offside position first half, the exact opposite of Bobby making sure he was onside for his eventual goal.
No substitute for hard work. No substitute for winning the ball and providing quality.
LolLiterally denying a very clear fact, very clearly visible on every replay of our goal you'll see that Mane deliberately and cleverly moves White to open up the channel for Jota to be run into and be found in
And ignoring the quality of the press and counter press and hard work in the entire passage of play preceding Robbo's blocked shot that made Robbo HAVE to go to ground and tackle and find himself in a position to assist
"If Everton were playing at the bottom of my garden, i'd close the curtains”
Manes movement impacting on White does little in getting the ball to Jota. Which Thiago provided. Mane & White are never in the pathway from Thiago to Jota.
Jota has found the space getting in behind his man (not white), Thiago provides the pass and white is delayed a fraction in getting across to Jota who smashes it in past Ramsdale.
In an argument about crucial impacts you're trying to give Mane more credit than the other 2 who create and finish the chance. Watch it from behind the goal.
Bobby was pivotal in the build up to the second, Robbos determination and attitude played a big part.
Made 7 tackles/intercepts.
They're the two who get the credit of big impacts for that one.
