Wijnaldum Henderson Jones

Salah Firmino Mane

Good line up for what will be a tough tough game, let's make sure our communication and the players directing and helping each other in their positioning and press and counter press is at it's very highest levels, back to the 18-19 levels of communication from all the players. That our press, counter press and winning of second balls and recycling of the ball is as good as it can possible be. Be clinical with our opportunities to create chances and in finishing them. Really hope Jones is getting a start at LCM, he plays far better there, came through the academy playing there and LFWD.

Come on come on come ON Liverpool, come the fucking FUCK on Liverpool, get the win here today and another vital 3 points

On the creativity from midfield, I do wish we attempted more work through the channels. I appreciate that Robbo and Trent are very effective from wide and that Hendo has that ball where he strikes it when it's almost behind him, but we occasionally need to direct the ball through alternative outlets, be it the one-two or the through ball.

Not a great half, West Ham with a 5 man defence and a 4 man block in front of it has made it tough going, it hasn't been helped by Mo and Mane being too central in my opinion and the goal came through Mo being fouled pulling into space on off the shoulder of their LCB as you would expect Mo and Mane to be making that movement pulling off the shoulder of their LCB and RCB respectively

Over to Jurgen to work his half time magic as ever and make sure we're A LOT better second half, get the win and another vital 3 points here tonight

I'd like to see Mane and Mo off the shoulder of the RCB and LCB, we've always had a great deal of success with that, and those 2 being too central for too much of it and our trying to play through West Ham's 5-4-1 simply hasn't worked, let's be more direct, keep asking question with attempted balls for either and win the second balls

True but Bobby was spent a year ago - and guess what happened..? Klopp kept playing him. So he has been clocking up all those miles - all those impacts with burly defenders - for another year from a starting point
Of being shattered.

Everything can be traced to a year Ago when the club failed to add to a squad that came within an inch of an incredible PL CL double. And As I said it might - it galvanised the team - and the mentality BUT now - now we see the true cost.

Yrent literally never stops the cross.

Easily the weakest and most frustrating part of his game.

His positioning prior to the crossing player receiving the ball (he always gets caught far out of position), and then his reluctance (inability?) to press them or even push them farther out wide or towards the corner for a harder cross.

It's no wonder opposition teams always target his wing of the defense whenever they play us.

1:1 - Mané did go into the keeper to be fair

It wasn't for the clash with the keeper, though.

It was because his trailing leg took out the defender ( I can't spell his name).

The collision with the keeper was from a fair challenge for a 50-50 ball that they both missed and then Aghbanlahor (who did get to the ball) gets taken out by Mané's trailing leg, hence the goal being disallowed.

Oh well but sure the foot into the Keeper had an effect. We know what refs are like when anyone touches a keeper

Actually fouls on keepers are pretty much usually clear cut how they call them.

If the keeper is going for a ball (that is NOT 50-50, as in he has the advantage of getting it) and also has no protection for himself as a result (like say with a high ball), and you clash into them, that's a foul all day.
Also if you run into them or block them or otherwise impede from a dead ball situation (like corners or freekicks), then they also get the call.

BUT, if you're both going for a 50-50 ball with either player having a fair chance to win it, then a clash in that situation doesn't automatically warrant a freekick for the keeper, and if anything in many cases if the keeper is adjudged to have impeded YOU from fairly winning it, then they get penalized (including up to a penalty.)

In this case, neither Mané nor Fabianski had any fair advantage over the other on winning that ball and despite Mané's leg digging into him in the sequence of it, it wouldn't have been a foul had his trailing leg not taken out the defender who was in the best position to win the ball (not sure he had control of it yet).

The reasoning is that the goalkeeper has to have a fair chance to protect himself and failing that, to win the ball that they have the better chance of getting.

Was it ruled offside Bali ? i thought they deemed Mane to have fouled the keeper.

I don't think he meant it was called offside, I believe he meant it was ruled off.

But it wouldn't have been an offside anyway even if the foul hadn't been given since the final ball came from Aghbanlahor and not our own player.

The question then would have been whether it was an intentional clearance or kick by Aghbanlahor or if it was a deflection that he was unaware of.
I believe in the latter case, then the offside would count and rule it off.
I could be wrong though.

But if you're a defender and you're clearing the ball and instead hit it to an opposition player who is in an offside position, then you're playing him onside (If I understand the rule correctly).
That's why back passes to the goalkeeper that get intercepted by opposition attackers who are CLEARLY in an offside position when they do don't get ruled out for offside if they then score.

Same thing for goalies who try to clear it but hit it into an opposing attacker in an offside position and it goes into the net.

The cube has now unlocked two tight defences with two sublime passes to finish games off. Against teams set up up to park the bus he is a perfect understudy for Thiago.

Well played Shaqiri!

Shaqiri has had fitness issues and has been underused when 'fit'. Jota was a much needed addition, but we still need more, namely at the back and a bit more creativity and goal threat.

Yes, I remember the two of us salivating about Big Shaq back in the day. I'd say we're not short of options at the back - on paper we're fine. The problem is that they're constantly injured *cough* Matip *cough*. It's getting to the point where he should look to move to a less physically demanding league a la Agger. Who could also have been a Rolls Royce of a defender if things had gone differently...
