Liverpool can confirm Chris Morgan has returned to the club in the position of first-team physiotherapist. He rejoins the Reds' medical team having departed in 2016 following 10 years of service. Morgan went on to work with Crystal Palace and, most recently, Arsenal as a senior physio.15 Aug 2020

Palace then Arsenal have had long injury lists in the last few years.. Mostly muscle injuries.. Apart from Lallana. The team asnt really suffered from them kinda injuries in recent seasons.
Not blaming the physio for all these , but he seems to have missed the injury to Thiago and how bad it was..

It's still only one moment, one which only required a 'normal' reaction, not any kind of 'decision making' or 'decisiveness', which is the real test of a great keeper. Any decent keeper can make a good save, heck I could when I was younger.

Midfield is shocking dude - have the balance to call it.

No Bobby in Bergamo and we smashed Atalanta for 5...didn’t get zip after Jota was replaced. Not that one game proves analysing but one half and the problem is quality in the ball.

EDIT: not that one game proves anything but this is just one half and the problem is our quality on the ball. It is the midfield that is struggling most here.

Much much better half from Neco, probably his best 45 in a first team game. Kelleher was better with his feet than Adrian, launching it long when needs be.
A bit meh from the midfield, we’ve been in some excellent positions and wasted them with poor touches or final balls. Strangely Jota at fault for us not going in at half time in front with two heavy touches at vital moments.
Enthralling game that could still end up going either way, difficult to call.

Neco Williams playing a more solid game tonight. He is keeping it simple, sometimes just getting rid, and not turning back into trouble. I think Ajax have been targeting him in the last 25 minutes.

We desperately need someone in midfield who can hang on the ball, more so given we look like we are running on empty and could do without giving away the ball as easily as we are, especially what is going on with our backline.

They're being outnumbered, Bobby makes it a four a lot of the time and drops very deep quite a lot, deeper than 2 of the midfielders, in the game v Atalanta they played very open and their press was non existent, Jota has to link midfield and attack better in this game and help midfield more, I'm sure he'll pop up with a goal or 2 second half, he has wasted 2 decent chances with a poor touch first half, one of himself and one where we were 3v2 and he should have played Mo in but for a poor touch

It is workmanlike - they work their arses off no argument but lack guile - only works with a brilliant front 3 and 2 amazing full backs. How many players has Klopp bought to go in there. He is well aware it needs work if we are to keep improving 1 sadly he hasn’t worked out what players to buy. Keita - Ox - Thiago have all been bought to be starters - hopefully Thiago will be but can he stay fit.?

I like Jones the first time I saw him because he looks like he has confidence - an arrogance.

It did him good, in every performance prior to tonight's him not putting the ball in when he gets it in those positions has driven me insane, he kept it simple and cut out the stupid stuff trying to dribble past 3 or 4 players near our own box and played quite a few stock balls down the line for Mo to chase instead and 2 or 3 nice switches and put the ball in when you'd expect him to as well

We looked light last night because our midfield were constantly outnumbered as Bobby wasn't there dropping in, that lightness changed as soon as Bobby came on

Fabinho at CM Atletico, Watford, Burnley, UAE FC, Villa, 4 crushing defeats and a dismal draw, then other games like West Ham and Chelsea where we shipped 2 or more goals having not conceded at all or only the odd goal a game over about 20 games without him.

Since the evolution of our midfield's play in his absence Fabinho has been a disaster at CM as it has become rather than DM he played first season, don't take my word for it, go and check out our record with him at CM since his return last season, it is absolutely abysmal

At City did we go out all guns blazing in a definite 4-2-4 or was it more 4-2-3-1 ?

It was the 4312/433 where our more attacking mid makes the 3 if Bobby's deeper or joins the front 3 from deeper, Jota started at RCM and played that role in that one

At Wolves because they counter a lot Jota played a lot deeper when they were defending, like an orthodox LM or LCM a lot of the time, he's the best suited of all our forwards to play a LCM or RCM role if/when we got with all four

It makes perfect sense to me at least because he's scored most of his goals for us being found with runs from a little deeper, behind Mane and Mo, we don't lose our constant runs in behind from them and Jota's also great at making outside in runs between the lines to be found between the opposition midfield and defence,, a lot better than Mane or Mo or any of our more attacking mids at it, so for me if/when we play all 4 that's the best way to use them as it's playing to all their strengths

Steveo
2nd December 2020, 11:25 PM
Yep Salah and Bobby were most often the more advanced in that first half ( especially Salah ) - personally I would just have our front 3 as normal but push Jota through the middle as he was in Bergamo and you have a front line that will hurt teams. Not saying it is without risk BUT we are dropping like flies. That 4 will occupy teams - peg them back and protect our defensive 3rd.

Just my take but think it would work in plenty of games - we could see a return to big scoring again. That takes the pressure off midfield and defence. We have had to concentrate so much over the last 2 years - be nice to just blow a few teams away and get a mental and physical rest.

Personally I dont have an issue with Hawkeye, its black n white. Theres no grey area or misinterpretation. VAR on the other hand is now being abused and seems to me that the premier league are gradually sneaking it in for things they shouldn't. The pen against us last week being an example, the VAR team like a snitch had a word in the refs ear to look at it when there wasnt any need to in my book. I'd like to see one of the refs have the balls to say no to them.
The linesman will be redundant very soon as theres no need for them to be there.

I'm kind of arguing against myself here I understand the binary nature of hawk eye but I still think that example above should count as a goal :)

Why ? The whole of the ball isn't over the lines, they are the rules. Your example was much nearer to a goal than Geoff Hurst's was in the 66 World Cup Final. How that was given as a goal i have no idea.

Come on Skye... You must surely have an inkling as to why that World Cup final goal was given...?

Its a shame this technology wasnt available in the fa-cup final against Chelsea when King Kenny was the manager..I still say to this day the ball was over the line from the Carrol header

There's an urban legend that the linesman was from the USSR. When asked on his deathbed why he gave the goal he answered with a single word "Stalingrad". :D

Wouldn't it have then been a red card and penalty against Cech? I'd almost rather take that. :D

Not so, Jose until this day Jose goes mental about that.. But if you review that incident. Just look at the ref he was about to award a penalty and send Chech off. So Chelsea got away with it more than we did.

Certainly wouldn't rather take it now - that goal got us the win. A Red card and a penalty would need VAR not Hawkeye - and wouldn't have guaranteed a win.

Hang on - SO you would happily take that over the goal and the win???? I thought we were talking specifically about goal line technology?
