A sad day.

Houllier deserves a lot of credit for putting the club on the right path after a decade in the wilderness.

Never forget his face when McAllister bangs that free kick in from miles out vs the bitters, he gave us some great memories.

Bless you Gerard.

A club legend who brought us hope - that cup treble year especially.. what could have been had his health not failed him at a crucial time...?

Utd won the league that year and there wasn't even hardly a mention of it. Hahaha...
A great season after 10 years in the doldrums.

Genuinely broken by this news. I met him twice and he was so warm and sincere; he absolutely loved the club, the city and the people. I'm stunned.

I am really glad he got to see us finally win the league. No man on earth would have been prouder.
What a terrible year this has been all round.

Me too mate, I welled up in the car when I found out. He was manager all through my time going to matches regularly. Never met him but have so many fond memories of him. He stuck up for the club big time and is part of the fabric.
I know it wont happen and some disagree but I genuinely think he should be on that flag on the Kop.
Thommos tribute is particularly great.

I've only just got up (as a result of my own health issues) and heard the sad news. I'm just listening to some tributes on the radio and I genuinely started tearing up. It upsets me greatly whenever something bad happens to someone good.

RIP Ged. You will be greatly missed.

Thanks for the unforgettable fantastic memories, Gerard.

He started us on our path out of the wilderness.

He is a proud part of our modern history. In the 30 years between league titles we won 10 trophies. He was manager for 4 (40%) of them.

One of many fine nights under him - think he was pretty much just back from his first bout of ill Health, though my memory for pre-Rafa Liverpool is quite fuzzy these days.

We had a few dust ups with Roma under him. First English team to beat them and Olympiakos away for years and years. Maybe ever.

heartbreaking :(

"you can never take away from me time and success "

And the fantastic relationship i've had with players with my staff and of course with the supporters

we can't Gerard we can't

Even when he first was manager, and I was very young, I could still tell how nice of a guy he was

I remember one of our players getting sent off in a game. He said in a post match interview, " You can't control a game, if you can't control yourself"

After the European cup final in 2005
He went into the dressing room
Quietly.
And all the players were celebrating with him.

Looking back 12 of the 14 players involved were Houllier players .
