Ok follow that chasing pack.

First up, Southampton v Man City.
Good to see Danny Ings starting, Aguero on the bench, no sign of Jesus, maybe he’s got lots to organise for his birthday on Friday.

Rodri taps in at the far post but so sad to see... three City players are offside.

Next attack it’s the old get to the byline and pull it back for the player coming onto the ball to slot it. Why can’t these teams see what City do with virtually every goal they score??

Exactly. I don’t understand the criticism. If you find a consistent way to score, surely you’re going to use it. Opposition coaches/defenders really need to work on nullify it.

It's not a criticism. It's just an observation that almost all of their goals come the same way, and that they do not play scintillating football, nor is KDB (nor a few other of their players) as good as many claim he is/they are.

That's right and after our lads administered a fine bumming to Palace earlier it would make the day complete for Southampton to demonstrate that with 3 second half goals to make a good day so far complete you feel

It's taken many a long time to see how good their manager is. I knew he was good long ago, even more so when we played them a while back. He plays a high intensity/pressing game. He'll get picked up by a 'big club' at some point. I just hope it isn't either of the Manc teams.

How do you define who's offside if not by a binary line, miller?

The problem is drawing the line down the shoulder/upper arm which is a part of the body a player can’t score with.

Not to mention the inaccurate timing of the freeze frame/pixel rate to begin with. If anything they should favor the attacker if it’s so close you really can’t be sure.

miller0863

The technology is not accurate enough to call such tight offsides Bali, I know you are a very “black and white” guy but I have watched football for 50 odd years without all this nonsense. Constant hold ups of 3 and 4 minutes. No one celebrating a goal til they check it from 45 different angles.

And after all that they still get it wrong multiple times every week. Would much rather we went back to the old way of officiating a game, letting it flow and allowing us to check for a linesman’s flag and celebrate a goal.

Cannot stand it.

Completely agree, miller - it's not fun and not accurate enough to justify it. But it will get better - refs will learn how to use it better and computers will improve. It's just about giving smart boffins dosh to figure it out.

But the problem is not the rule or the technology at a conceptual level.

The problem is drawing the line down the shoulder/upper arm which is a part of the body a player can’t score with.

Not to mention the inaccurate timing of the freeze frame/pixel rate to begin with. If anything they should favor the attacker if it’s so close you really can’t be sure.

All they are doing is taking the decision away from the referee and linesmen to another official working a computer. And how trained are they to use the computer software ?

It would be interesting to know are strikers being coached differently now. By the looks of it being " on the shoulder of the defender" most likely will have you offside at the top level.

Yep, if the game becomes an attacker must basically be behind the defender it’s a big plus for the defense. Don’t know for sure but it sure seems like more traditionally viewed legitimate goals have been chalked off with VAR then truly offside goals being overturned.

Will Bielsa change the way he plays? Most managers only have one way of playing, and if they do change things up, it often takes a big part of their former game away e.g. the plastic Mancs have tightened up a fair bit, but they are now nowhere as potent in front of goal as they were.

I agree,, they dont change and when they do it takes away the mental approach. Look at Arsenal they sat very deep and it worked for a while last season.Artea is still playing those tactics and Arsenal can't score for shit..Does he revert back to pressing forward?? will they start conceding stupid goals like they use to? its a quandary.

Funny enough i was viewing some past incidents on youtube last week. The battle of bramall lane. Its where 3 Sheffield United players were sent off.
Warnock apparently advised 2 of his players to feign injury and the game was abandoned by the ref near the end of game because there wasnt enough players on the pitch for Sheff United.
West-brom were 2 up at the time. I think.. Anyway there was talk of the game being replayed. And Gary Megson said on interview if that happens when his team are 2 down in another game. he will put on 3 subs and take off 8 players (i laughed at that)
anyhow the FA saw sense and awarded the game to West_Brom
