Given Jurgen said he wanted all the new lads in early Edwards is certainly taking his time about things, it's frustrating and unsettling after what happened last summer and in January

FSG need to wake up and realise that a football club needs constant investment and you can't just make do with sub standard never fit squad players

It's like they think "We bought Mane, Salah, Wijnaldum, Van Dijk, Allison, Robertson etc where does it end"

Well, it never ends, players age like everyone else, if you buy players one or two a season when you need almost an entirely new squad like when Jurgen arrived, by the time you've add enough players over 4 seasons for your team to challenge for top honours and give you the platform to massively increase the clubs commercial performance

The players you bought over 5 years to achieve that need refreshing or replacing, as the game has moved on and other sides who do invest in their team and squad have improved, some of the players you bought who were good enough, are no longer good enough.

It's why you can never stand still, the owners have to look for the constant evolution in the playing side and to keep continuity by bringing new emerging players and a couple of more proven highly rated and sought after players who don't come cheap in to play with the current best for a season or 2 while the very best of what brought them success are still with us

Not always going to be easy to negotiate with selling clubs during an international tournament, as they will sit on their evaluations in the hope that a couple of good performances mean they can bump the price up.

Think we'll be attempting to do similar to be fair, with a view to getting (slightly) more money for certain players (if they even want to go, difficult to push some out the door) to re-invest.

If Shaqiri went for £16m say, rather than £12m (if he has another good performance for Switzerland) then the £4m "extra" could lead to the acqusition of a talented youngster, or a wage top-up for someone here. It's small change in the footballing word some might say (and I can understand that) but "every little helps" as the saying goes.

Also, some players may not want to leave - most of us would have Origi move on, but he will be happy with his wages, has won silverware and has come in from the proverbial cold for us before to help fire us to a Champion's League Final and indeed onto winning the Cup itself, so he will (rightly or wrongly) believe he can earn a spot again.

Then you get those players who you might consider selling (or perhaps even really want to) so they don't leave on a free, who don't go, but end up being useful enough within a certain context. Emre Can could have been sold for £25m or so, but he wasn't - he ends up going on to play 26 games in his last season, scores 5 goals, including a winner against Burnley and an amazing (winning) overhead kick against Watford in the 35th(?) game of the season - so his "value" to the side (plays a part in getting us Champion's League football, which enables Salah to come) that season arguably works out not-too-shabbily for us. We could very well have taken the money from a buying club but not reinvested it wisely - we'll never know either way so I don't want to big up his influence that season too much as it is of course, a team game. Ditto Wijnaldum in 20/21 - might not have had the same Match of the Day winning highlight moments like Emre Can did, but having Gini available for the course of a full season proved much more valuable than the transfer fee we could have gotten for him as we (very probably) don't get Top Four if he isn't in the team.

The new season and the end of the summer window aren't that far away - let's see where we are then, rather than now.

Does the window close before the season starts, like it did last year.

    Well, we'll see.

Plenty of options available to us - even getting someone like Elseid Hysaj could be a possibility - his contract expires on the 30th of this month, is 27, plays for Napoli as a right-back, captains the Albanian national side and has 9 seasons in a row of 20 or more League appearances under his belt.

It's hypotheticals of course, but if an experienced player from a European League came in as cover for Trent in place of Neco Williams, life wouldn't seem so bad, eh?

That's one option - plenty worth exploring out there.

Twitter saying we've turned down a £8m bid from Burnley for Nat Phillips. We want a nice round £10m to make the maths easier.
