The timing is an issue to be fair.
Agents know that a player might be worth more after a good Euro and thus said agent may get a bigger cut.
Also, in defence of our owners, Konate is one of the biggest transfers of the Summer already - and he came to us, not City/Chelsea/whoever.

Loan them out and let someone else pay their wages while they hooked up to all the medical equipment, know to mankind.
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
Defending the owners will put you in Steveo’s naughty books.
Konate shouldn’t be our biggest signing Sid. He was a necessity. Our biggest signing should be someone who can improve our forward play and improve our shot to goal conversion rate.
Despite all the gripe I give Firmino, he is a skilful player. On his day, he is really good. Maybe utilise him as the link up man between attack and midfield and buy an outright number 9.
I’ve only got a naughty step not a book .
Seriously though..
Konate is a start but the lad isn’t even a senior yet - certainly not in international terms - he comes in a year after Lovren left without replacement. Citing his signing in defence of the owners seems pretty generous - but each to their own.
Matip cannot see out one of our League Cup runs - never mind a league season and Gomez, at just 24, has already missed almost 2 full seasons.
There is plenty of work to do to try and make up for a lack of activity since 2018 - especially as Gini has gone, Milner is another year older and Henderson is no spring chicken.
Doubtful we will be able to do it - but I hear we are looking to move on up to 10 players to the tune of £60 million - so Klopp can win back the title.
