Marko Grujic: Liverpool sell Serbia midfielder to Porto for £10.5m

Porto have signed midfielder Marko Grujic for £10.5m from Liverpool, who are also expected to sell forward Taiwo Awoniyi to Union Berlin for £6.5m.

Serbia international Grujic, 25, spent last season on loan at Porto, making 28 league appearances and eight Champions League outings for them.

Nigerian Awoniyi, 23, scored five goals in 22 games on loan at German side Union Berlin last season.

Liverpool have negotiated 10% sell-on clauses in both deals.

Yeah good news for us both players who have hardly played and are off the books.

I think new players will arrive soon once overseas players are gone to create space.

We have something like a 30-35 man squad it didnt feel like that last season but we are carrying dross that was loaned out we need to shift.

Karius will go on a free or small loan fee then thats it for him here.

We will sign a forward im sure of that due to African Nations maybe someone like Jonathan David.

Nat Phillips not in either team for the 30 minute friendlies. Could be absolutely meaningless. I do wonder if he is likely to go to Brighton to replace Ben White though.

In terms of our front three (and back-ups) I think we'll be looking at Firmino, Mane, Salah, Jota (all 4 a given) with Elliott and one other possibly making up the 2 remaining spots. Perhaps (keeping an eye on the future) we'll look at bringing someone like Hlozek in?

In terms of the future and contracts (the "priority" issue has come up when it comes to our lack of imminent push to extend Henderson's contract) of the attacking players, we'll be desperate to extend Salah's and I suspect will pick one of Mane or Firmino's to extend, but not both. Then we'll either accept a transfer fee at the end of the 21/22 for said player (let's say it's Firmino, with Jota pushing through to take his first-team spot) or just play them until contract expiry a la Can/Wijnaldum.

Sell the players listed earlier in the thread and we could easily generate over £50m in sales.

Subtract the £34m we’ve already spent then that leaves £15 - 20m + whatever F$G put in.

Should be able to get a half decent Gini replacement for that.

Wonder if we could tempt Aouar over if he hasn't already agreed terms with anyone else.

Said to be available for £17m, 23-years old, lowers the average age of the midfield unit, can score/create and there's not a pressing need to break the bank in midfield anyway if we're giving Jones more game time.

Have to complete more sales of course to be able to purchase a non-homegrown player but if we got that work wrapped up in time he could be an option very worth looking at, especially given the size of the alleged price drop (valued at £45m last year) at this time.
