    Think I’d stick with Phillips

Apparently Adrian has asked to go in this window. You've left that late mate.
Maybe the defender we bring in is Englesi.

    Healthier position to be in.
Jota ; cover and pressure on front 3.
Thiago added to the 8 or 9 we have in midfield for 3 places.
    Full backs covered
Gk covered now especially with the youngster stepping up.

We had 4 CBs ... it has been an unbelievable turn of circumstances that incredibly... non.

Matip is a big concern. Gomez VVD and Fabinho were always going to be the other 3.

With the 3 younger CBs like Koumetio VDB and Williams for the u23s.

Nobody ever thought that come January Williams and the recalled Phillips would be our fit CBs.

    Some crystal ball.

So we would wait to next summer and go for the selected target rather than spunkkng £20m on a temporary fix.

Speaking of £20m on a temporary fix.

Apparently we HAVE contacted Diop and West Ham, with a view to taking Diop on loan.

    Sensible.

But West Ham have pretty much put it to us "if you take him on loan, you're obliged to buy for £20m".

That's all well and good if we actually want Diop permanently (possibly taking up the space of a better defensive target we will have had) but if taking Diop meant we were unable to acquire Upamecano or whoever it is we really want later on, we'd be pretty aggrieved.

So I do think it will come down to whether or not the club feels we have enough to get over the line without an acquisition. Don't be surprised if we act (or don't) based on whether or not we are 5 points clear of fifth-placed West Ham by the end of tomorrow, or a point behind!

West Brom and Southampton also keen to take Maitland-Niles on loan from Arsenal.

Fella seems to be able to play a number of positions. Might not be the worst thing in the World for us to have a look at him, to free up a slot for someone else to fill in at centre-back if required. Though West Brom and Southampton probably give him more minutes, which he will want so as to advertise his capacity to contribute in the England set-up.

Konate fans - the lad has missed about 60% of the matches he could have played over the last 18 months.

The thing is we need two CBs anyway so Diop now shouldnt stop another in the summer.
