Ian St John was honoured with a period of applause at Anfield ahead of Liverpool's Premier League fixture with Chelsea on Thursday.
The Reds legend sadly passed away on Monday evening*at the age of 82 following illness.*
St John made 425 appearances and*scored 118 goals for the club after arriving from Motherwell in 1961.
In a decade-long spell at Anfield under the management of Bill Shankly, the striker netted an iconic winner to secure Liverpool its first ever FA Cup as they beat Leeds United 2-1 in the 1965 final.*
The Scot was a central figure for Shankly's side and helped the club gain promotion to the First Division in his debut campaign, before they went on to lift the top-flight crown in 1964 and 1966.*
