We played a far lower line, in the second half LCM were holding and coming into the No6 position when he went, hopefully that's the plan moving forward, otherwise he is the man who makes gaps appear, did it 4 or 5 times first half and they had 4 or 5 v 3 between our midfield and defence and thankfully chose the wrong options, just so long as he understands if LCM and RCM are both ahead of him, he can't go charging for a tackle he won't make and leave the player our LCM covered all second half, and he'll be awesome

Totally agree, he won everything in the air, his positioning was superb, he was miles better defending on the deck than I've seen him, making 4 or 5 crucial challenges when they would have otherwise been in

Thiago made gaps appear and closed potential gaps tonight, so did Keita when he came on, very fucking nice

One thing I like about Thiago, although I wouldn't like that put to the test in our box , is that in other areas of the pitch he's a bit Mane like, not as in getting in front of the player and bringing the ball down, the jumping with a player using his body and strength without fouling him doing enough to put the much bigger player off and stopping him getting an effective header on the ball

I'd have Phillips here next season if he keeps this up. Isn't perfect for our brand of footie, but if he was happy to accept a "Klavan" sort of role he would be an excellent option to retain.
