Could an argument be made for keeping him on the bench to start the game against Madrid and then bringing him on early in the second half as an impact sub?

He certainly completely changed disposition of the game when he came on today.
We've looked an entirely different beast since he's been on - more dangerous, decisive and clinical.

Given that chances will likely be at more of a premium against Real Madrid, I think it would be taking too much of a risk to not play him. If we get any good chances, we need to take them, and at the moment Jota is the player most of us would like to see on the end of them.
