No getting at you but I see a lot of people justifying the pen by saying they thought Kane was fouled earlier on and it evens out. Not sure if it was but I think of the 3 pen shouts England had including when Henderson went down the one he gave would have been the least likely to be given imho. 2nd ball on the pitch too.
I know you're not Eggy, I didn't take it that way.
Best referee was for the Italy v Spain game. Two teams steeped in the dark arts tradition but he was having none of it.
Thought last night’s ref was poor.
It’s a cancer on the game plain and simple. Most attackers do it and it has crept into play all over the pitch. Since most fans will defend their team diving but criticize all others it’s here to stay. Refs can’t do too much about it since it is to a degree subjective and VAR is a mess anyway that offers little help.
Thinking back,my earliest memory of it is the West Germany team in Italia 90. Klinsmann rolling around like he had been shot and writhing in agony. He then made it his trademark after he moved the Spurs and did a celebratory dive after scoring.
Back when we (most of us I’m guessing) were kids to throw yourself down would’ve been shameful. It was about being tough and staying on your feet while giving others a solid foul here and there as needed. Younger generations have grown up with flopping around and it’s now an everyday part of the sport. It’s sad.
