How does that help with a player leaving the first team squad?
I mean in the sense that he is getting, for want of a better word, promoted. Or is one step further up the ladder to the first-team.
- Last season Shaqiri was available, Elliott was on loan.
- This season Elliott is available, to "replace" Shaqiri, such as it is. Though 22 appearances would surprise me (what Shaq had in 20/21) as we were down to the bare bones last season, which will (hopefully!) not be the case this season - indeed Shaq only had 11 appearances in 19/20 and I think Elliott can easily take those on.
- Gordon then goes "up" a bit - my suspicion would be appearances (not always starts) in League Cup and FA Cup rather than a loan, but whatever Klopp chooses I'll trust, as will 99.9% of Reds. Though I'd personally like him training with the first-team if we can.
- If Origi leaves too then that opens more doors for appearances to be spread out - he had 17 last season - with players like Minamino, Elliott, Gordon likely to want minutes, with Gordon (probably) bottom of that pile.
