Sincerely, if you buy Ronaldo and you have him at your club for 2 years on big wages, he's there to win the League or the Champion's League, unless you have no faith in yourselves as a club to do that and get him solely for giving the fans the most short-lived and expensive "lift" imaginable.
If they missed out on Top Four this season (very early days, but it's possible) and he goes into next season (his last?) and they're not in the Champion's League, what are they hoping for? Suddenly conjuring a League win when ourselves, Man City and Chelsea are ticking along?
Their short-sightedness is legendary. They epitomise the opposite of the best bits of our strategy. We aren't perfect, but by God I'd much rather do things our way than theirs!
