    Alisson

    Trent Konate Van Dijk Robertson

    Fabinho Thiago

    Henderson Jota Mane

    Salah

I'd stick with the deeper line a fair bit of the time, one full back stays and one goes and 2 in front of them as Fabinho plays far far better in a midfield 2, never a No6 in a 433, but been very good in a 2 or in a 3 which has one of the other mids also sit a lot more alongside him

I expect our lads to administer an incredibly harsh bully ramming to the bitters, get the win and another absolutely vital 3 points

Matip in for Konate and I'd consider starting Milner over Thiago but otherwise same again

Not a bad shout on Milner starting in place of Thiago for this horrible game against the bitter thugs.

Konate was the the only weak link yesterday - if Matip fit, do it Jurgen.

Matip is fit, Jurgen is rotating the CBs to make sure he always has at least 3 match fit at any one time, I would have thought that would have been very obvious to everyone this far in.

I am curious however as to why you believe Konate was a weak link in yesterday's game, there was the one instance when Southampton had a player released in behind by Trent's poor throw, which he made an incredible recovery from in actual fact getting back to do more than enough to give the player nothing but Alisson to aim at

I've been a massive fan of Matip for a considerable amount of time, on the subject of my being the only person who believes certain things, Justme, CCTV and several other argued long and hard with me over a very long time that Gomez was a better CB than Matip, Imagine

Matip has far more Premier League experience and is a better Premier League and Champions League defender for our team than Konate right now, but Matip has played for Jurgen and with all our other players a lot longer

One incredible positive about Konate's performance in contrast to Matip's this season, or rather Matip and Virgil together was Konate and Virgil consistently holding the same line almost the entire game and how Konate positioned himself to do that, watching Virgil while having the relevant players in his peripheral vision at the same time, it was actually better than Matip and Virgil have done it together this season, we've let quite a few of our goals in through them not checking what the other one is doing, Matip playing offside a few times when Virgil has gone with the runner, that didn't happen once yesterday

Not totally sure about that last point Nineteen, Robertson has been the one costing chances and goals by dropping too deep on several occasions. Can’t say I’ve noticed Matip at fault.

I don't know why your new fav player is Konate 19x we've hardly seen him yet really

fact is every time he starts it seems like the other team get behind us a lot more, and easily more got at, he's young and needs time obviously, but honestly even Gomez your 2nd fav player after fabinho would of done better.

I don't see why you want to jump on his dick so much to be honest, at this point.

we'd be talking about it alot more if it wasn't for allison who's picked his game back up again in the last few ones.

I was asking a legitimate question, what it was he had done wrong, why he was allegedly a weak link. He did get the offside line wrong once in the entire game, which given how many times we've had a defender play someone onside this season in every game when we shouldn't have, and the 3 or 4 goals we've conceded through Virgil and Matip not doing the same thing and one holding the line with the other running in behind. well, it was a massive improvement in that respect

3 shots on target for Southampton, one of them a culmination of Konate and another defender, actually Virgil I think, the other 3 are all in a line ahead of him anyway, he's the one playing everyone on

Konate was a bit ropey v Porto, playing out of position and LCB with a few other players rested too, as you mention Gomez, which is very funny again what Konate does in the positions Gomez always failed so miserably is he does actual real defending, he knows how to defend properly, what the best or right position to take is and how to react and reacts very well every time when something happens that wasn't in the game plan to allow to happen, Gomez's lack of experience of actual real defending showed up incredibly every single time we faced a situation like that in any game, he was no better than brain fart Lovren in that respect

    @19

On Konate, obviously he hasn’t played much so I don’t think it’s a problem (yet) but he has looked a little too easy to wrong foot in moments - admittedly I am thinking of the Porto game mainly - but the Saints got joy outta him too.

Going into the game with the thugs I just think they will target him and experience of such a cauldron might be a better option than Konate’s obvious physical strength.

I always think of changed lineups v them. Don’t want Thiago to get hurt again and can see Konate struggling under the pressure in the atmosphere.
