Not sure, you'll get much of an answer.
Think most seem to think it was staged due to the iconic photo and reaction of trump.
I'm not sure why a guy leading in the battleground states by polling would risk a bullet to the head.
In other news reportedly an investment group of sorts, shorted trump stocks the day before the assassination attempt.
Would have made a lot of money had trump been shot, 12 million stocks shorted iirc. The guy involved said it was a clerical error.

Austin Private Wealth, LLC, a financial planning company based in Texas, bought put options on as many as 12 million shares of DJT just one day before the attack.
The short position taken by Austin Private Wealth on July 12 was also the largest among those listed – the second-biggest being the 1.677 million short made by Citadel in May.
Why the DJT short looks suspicious
While such a move otherwise may not be particularly suspicious, given that the rocky performance of Trump Media makes it a reasonable target for short attempts, both the timing and the scale of the purchase make it stand out.
Reportedly, the short position is the largest Austin Private Wealth, LLC has ever taken and the trade represents 6% of total shares and over 16% of the float of the DJT stock.
Even without the assassination attempt, the short position would have been interesting as it was opened just days before the RNC was to take place.
Given that Donald Trump was generally accepted as the Republican nominee – and given President Biden’s recent debate and interview performance – it is probable DJT stock would have risen after the nomination was officially announced, even without the attack.
Finally one speculator on X commented that is was odd Austin Private Wealth amended their filing on 7/16 and removed their put option on TMGT.

The identity of the shooter, for example, has opened more questions than it answered, given that he was a registered Republican who, at one point, made a donation to a Democrat-adjacent cause.

That's pretty wild CCTV! but sadly not surprising. Some conspiracy theories are more cock-up and incompetence which opportunists turn to their advantage, but some are definitely some dark shenanigans going on.
I'm open to the possibility that this shooting was more than just a random nutter operating alone, I just don't think it is as simple as some people make out.

Well, the director of the security services has stepped down. That may be no great loss but not sure she would have made any difference to failures on the ground.
Just waiting for Kamala Harris to name Joe Biden as her running mate now lol.

To your questions.
1) yes, shooting at a political figure with the intent to kill, meets the criteria of an assassination attempt.
2) perhaps he could, in this instance no.
Setting up an assassination of ones self, one would tend not to take such risk with a bullet to the head.
It looks far more likely that this was a rogue gunman, or a setup of sorts.
Biden steps down after the failed assassination attempt, Kamala installed as the Presidential nominee... seems they tried to take trump out and failed and have acted in a manner, that was expected in removing voting on their presidential nominee and to move the media cycle on a step or two with some new news stories. The whole Democrat party and media doing a complete aboutturn from the previous week.
The Slovakian PM also survived an assassination attempt, having been seen as an obstacle to continuing the war effort in Ukraine. Trumps also on that beat which wouldn't be good news for raytheon et al.

Instead, on September 11, 2001 the US government blew up the World Trade Center, It also blew up World Trade Center Building number 7 where all the financial documents related to the gold were stored.....
