Your team v Ajax (Champion's League group stage)

Although not a side you'd place money on to win the Tournament, Ajax are a European Giant in their own right.

Due to the cancellation of this weekend's football, we face them next for a Tuesday evening fixture under the lights at Anfield.

Our loss to Napoli was a heavy one, though taking 0 points from it was no huge surprise. The manner of the defeat is cause for concern, so Reds will watch this closely.

10 points is usually enough to qualify. I am hoping we can take all 6 from the Rangers games, meaning we probably have to take 4 points from Napoli at Anfield, Ajax at Anfield and Ajax away.

3 points here could therefore be enormous in the context of the group - but are we capable?

Good team. The cancellations unfortunate as they are will give some time for the squad to refresh and injuries to heal.

Not sure about Arthur in a 10 roll, he has been criticised at previous clubs for not getting the ball forward enough.

Appreciate he looks a bit shoe-horned in.

More about having someone who can hold the ball if we manage to box them in at any stage, plus we can rotate him and Thiago around if required.

Also a shape thing. Must be more compact.

Transfermarkt has him as a CM whose played DM.

    Centre mid
    Played 132 scored 6 assisted 6
Goal or assist per 11 games

    Defensive mid
    Played 38 scored 1 assisted 3
Goal or assisted per 10 games say

    Attacking mid
    Played 3 scored 0 assisted 0

For Brazil and Barca it was almost all playing CM.
At Gremio it was closer to playing CM 3 times, for 1 DM appearance. 33 v 10
At Juve it was nearly 50/50 but slightly CM over DM.
    30 v 25 appearances

His best season was at Barca 3 goals & 4 assists in 2019/20.

He's got 7 goals and 10 assists between Gremio, Barcelona & Juventus

Seems like he might have had Lucas Leiva for an idol.

Looks a tidy player if not spectacular

Is it two, or three, European Cups they have won?

Lucas won the Bolo de Auro as an attacking midfield. Rafa turned him into a defensive midfielder!!! Never understood that.

I don't care if Melo doesn't score or assist, just hope he can help the midfield find a rhythm and help stop ppl running through us
