Sepp van den Berg is reportedly wanted by Brentford and Southampton for Ł20m

Arthur Melo to return to Merseyside, this time with Everton

Not a massive amount of money for a 22-year old who can play centre-back and right-back.

Someone could end up with a bargain there if he continues his development.

Yeah, some of the figures quoted for our (homegrown) players are surprisingly low.

I didn't expect any players to leave until we at least had a manager in place to meet them.

Jurgens comments from his QnA at the arena last night are interesting. Seems he's happy with how things were done over his time there.
Alludes to paying daft money for Haaland, Bellingham and Mbappe and says "it's not us,it doesn't fit".

They were never the signings we would make under the current model though - as I and others suggested at the time.

As Klopp was always well aware. Sign one of those and haemorrhage elsewhere OR sell a golden goose to fund it.

He signed up to that model - not a prayer he is going to start moaning about it now tees. Certainly not on his farewell bash at the arena.

But it does highlight our true standing as a club under FSG. The nations most successful club - with one of the largest global fan bases going - able to compete in merchandise with almost anyone…… YET we cannot really compete for the best players with a host of clubs in our own league and a wider Europe.

Klopp was the man for us and frankly without him - it’s more like 40 years and counting.

    This is the real worry.

    Linked with Yolo & Rodrygo

I don’t see the Rodrygo thing, always seemed to struggle against Prem sides in the Champions League, Valverde often played ahead of him in those games for that reason, why would we pay top money & wages for a player who has always struggled against Prem opposition?

Agree it's not his style but he's also not likely to say something that isn't true. If he didn't feel supported he would have swerved the question in some way I think.
He knows we were never going near deals for those types of players with all the baggage and extras that they require, agents and other payments for this that and the other. We never have under any manager and never will.

How have we never gone for a Bellingham? What was Kenny? What was Beardsley? Barnes?

Not sure of the point being made - but you seem to be suggesting that because Jurgen hasn’t come out and enlarged on his statements in the past about not having the final say on transfers - or wanting to be able to take more risks… that he was actually happy with the backing.

He wasn’t and his past statements clearly point to that. He is never - EVER going to slag off the club.. That will not happen but he stopped short at every turn to say he loved the owners and is on the record with comments that cast them in a less than positive light.

He respects them for what they own and that they have a model to which they adhere. He Also believes in that mode over the just spend WTF you like model…

But he is also well aware that he wins plenty more with better backing - not that Jurgen will ever use that to detract from anything, That IS the man.

He isn't going to slag the club off, that's different to the owners but he wouldn't do that either.
He's saying he's happy they did it the right way and wouldn't have been happy with a throw money at it attitude which is what the other three clubs he mentions do.
All managers are going to want more money and he's no different but in the end he seems to be happy with how things went. We lost out by the finest of margins to a club who cheat.

He didn't have the final day whilst Edwards was there,he had final say on some things after he went like Hendersons new contract and buying Nunez over Nkunku according to some reputable journalists.

We couldn't afford Bellingham obviously, they did try though but obviously a deal didn't happen for whatever reason most likely not being in the CL.
Maybe it's a bit strange he actually mentions him due to the fact they were actually in for him. The other two were no chance players.

Im not sure Beardsley,Barnes And Dalglish are comparable. The money involved now is a different game altogether despite those signings being records/expensive and high wages in Barnes' case. There were no ridiculous agents fees back then or certainly not like now plus the overall wages of other players may not have been anything like now across a much larger squad.
