Assuming we don't we try anything too clever with the fee and no other clubs throw a spanner in the works, it would surprise me if he doesn't accept the opportunity.....

He's 25, just had a taste of success at the highest level with his country, and would surely fancy playing through his peak years with a club set up to win major trophies, just like his Basque compatriot did under Rafa. This is the kind of move that works for everyone -- please make it happen....

"Psssssst, hey, Zubi la' - just sit tight and you can get coached by me in a year's time at Real - you'll even have Trent for company so we can all laugh at the weather in England whilst we sip a Sangria!"

I guess Arsenal aren't serious about paying his release clause?

I think he told Arsenal he didn't want to leave Spain.
Maybe he was a 'boyhood Liverpool fan'.

With respect to omens...... if we sign this lad from Sociedad, I'd expect us to win the Champions league for a 7th time this year.

Spanish football expert Terry Gibson says Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi "has everything you need to be a modern day defensive midfielder".

Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside, external, the former striker said: "He is an excellent player and has gone under the radar of English clubs in the last few years. He is 25-years-old now but I knew he was a fantastic player and prospect at the age of 21.

"He fits the bill for any serious team in European football because he is that good. Zubimendi is not as important as his Spanish counterpart Rodri yet, but there are not a lot of differences between them.

"He has everything you need to be a modern day defensive midfielder. If you give him time on the ball then he will hurt you because he can create passes that put attacking play into motion. He resembles a lot of qualities of Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid.

"It is not going to be an easy transfer to pull-off because he is Real Sociedad through and through. They have been on a particularly good run of form in the last few years and he has been instrumental in that. But because of that, big clubs are coming calling for their best players."

How could he possibly resist the lure of playing for baldy Slot @L4?

IF he is in doubt - take him for a strole through the streets paved with gold - boutique shops on every corner, oozing culture with bustling markets and beautifully manicured public spaces in all direction. It’s got the lot…

    ….Then there’s Kirkby…

San Sebastian - meh… T’will be but a memory, I’m sure we’d all swap Pintxos for Scouse any day. 😜

Madrid (what have they won?) and their “glorified shopping centre” won’t get a look in either. The lad is comin to the ‘Pool.. The thought of Henry’s 19 bathroom holiday home will swing it in the end.

And the Nantucket one - this one is much more classy BUT and it is a big one - it only has the 15 bathrooms. However the 18,000 square feet of space more than make up for it.

To be fair, players / managers tend to live on the Wirral (see Raffa) or the other way to the north, Formby (Gerrard, Jurgen) or Birkdale (Kenny and his generation) or even across into Cheshire mixing with Manc players in Alderley Edge, Knutsford, Halebarns etc etc. some fabulously wealthy mansions in all of those areas, well populated with good bars and eateries and yes, numerous overpriced boutiques to relieve their wags of plenty of their husband’s wonga.

Shush, you'll upset the londoner. One minute he's moaning I don't live in Liverpool, the next he's shitting on the city.
