Nunez has scored only one goal in his last 10 appearances and managed only three all season - fewer than Diogo Jota, who has missed the last 11 matches with a chest injury.
Lolz
Liverpools number 9
if salah leaves he needs to go simple, we need goals, #9 Needs to actually find the net.
Diaz doesn't get goals much & Nunez doesn't without jota... who's injured half the season...... we've only got Salah for the goals when you think about it..
God knows what we'll do if he leaves, changes need to happen in summer even if we're top of the league atm.
we can do so much better.
If that happens (I don't think it will) we'll tweak the system and there'll be a different focus as to which players get the ball and where.
There will always things to try. Losing a player of Salah's output is obviously a nightmare scenario and the absolute worst thing we could do is try to (directly) replace him as I don't think there's currently an option on the market that would serve as an easy plug-in.
One thing I'd like to see at some stage this season is Jota central with Núñez cutting in from the left. When Benfica deployed Darwin, he'd often have a lot of joy in the left half-space and terrorise defenders.
I still think there is a lot to come under Slot in terms of how we exploit passing lanes, ball retention, the press etc - at the moment a lot of our shooting opportunities are created for the wide players, with Salah the most obvious beneficiary, but Diaz and Gakpo having a lof of joy as well
The through-ball isn't often the pass of choice (perhaps in part because Núñez is our only lightning-quick forward and not currently clinical enough to keep pinging it through to) and we nearly always seem to direct the ball wide for our inside forwards/inverted wingers/however you can't to phrase it - who then direct it to the far post or cut inside to get a shot off.
It's largely been working, but I do think we will see more evolution so that the central forward (be it Jota, Núñez or one of the matches where Diaz or Gakpo plays there) gets more chances, though hopefully not at the expense of the hard work they're currently expected to get through in that role.
Still the worst #9 we've had since Christian Benteke
He was better at LFWD in that cameo with Jota at No9
Which is all very well but Diaz and Gakpo are better than him in that position
Nailed it in one line.
I actually don’t think he’s that bad of a player. This season he’s been poor but historically he has made great runs and got into great positions. For whatever reason his finishing has been lacking during his time at LFC. He seems to be working harder for the team this season which is contributing to less chances for him and therefore less goals. I don’t think he’ll be here next season.
