That would leave 42 Premier League minutes, playing LWF, missing from last season.

This season such stats show we've been shocking, even without Gomez.
Who iirc you blamed for one goal as he didn't close down the shot, and on another goal you blamed him for blocking the shot and deflecting it in past Alisson.
In one instance he should block the shot and not left it to Alisson, in the other he shouldn't block the shot and leave it to Alisson.
No no no I didn't say that, you have elected to interpret it in that way

The first instance I said he should make a challenge, not try and block Vinicius' shot, he shouldn't be letting him have a shot that easy there at all with our other players he had for help, he has to make a challenge or get far closer at least so there isn't a shot on, ditto with the Benzema defelcted effort, there was enough players there he should have attacked Benzema

Here is what Gomez did in that game

Bottled making a challenge on Vinicius - Got bollocked for it at HT

Came out made a challenge that was never there to be made giving away a free kick which led to another goal

Having then done that again bottled making a challenge of Benzema but stuck a leg out at a weak attempted shot in a position none of our players should ever be doing

Then having done that, he again bottled making a challenge on Benzema instead trying to make a block, again completely unaware of where he was in relation to our goal and goalkeeper, going across our keeper and completely selling himself making it easy for Benzema to side step him and Alisson who Gomez effectively blocked off

He does that shit all the time, he's fucking clueless, he gets in Alissons way, flashes a leg at things, turns his fucking back on the ball like a complete pussy, threw himself outside of the area of the goal in a recent game giving the opposition player the near post to slot home easily into

He can't fucking defend, in 19-20 as detailed at the time he did well because in Fab's absence our press and counter press was absolutely incredible we restricted sides to virtually no possession in our half, no attempts on target or precious few and mostly hitting long balls down the channels for a forward to try and chase Gomez was always favourite to get to first, that was it pretty much, THAT is not real defending in which your positioning and decision making being that of a top defender everything, and in every situation like that Gomez fails, every time

If it were down to me, any defender who turns their back on the ball instead of standing up making and effective block of an area of the goal at the very least would be immediately run out of the club

Defending is pretty simple, attack the player, jockey them going from one foot to another never opening your stride enough to be megged (konate does this very well indeed) making them go where you want them to and at an angle where they can only try and go one way, the other way makes them go square or away from goal because of how close you've quickly got with your stepping and jockeying are and your body position, don't ever let yourself get squared up so a player can go either side of you with the ball or megs you and easily go either side of you, or megs you with a shot with the keeper unsighted

Gomez doesn't do any of those thing, Virgil, Matip and Konate do them, that's why those 3 are top defenders and gomez will never be

Make them all watch Carlito's Way, to remember NEVER to turn their back on the ball "Don't turn your back on the street

One assumes that with the stats being irrelevant, we can also claim that Gomez is at fault for this brilliant work by Trent.

Better example video of Trent’s invisible man act..

You can’t allow this level of ineptitude to and lack of application to persist without changing it.

I am Klopp’s biggest fan, but he has dropped a bollock on this. Trent wasn’t always like this, he has been incredible for spells. But even then we have often gotten away with it with our incredible attack… Mané and Mo along with Bobby (& Jota) have masked these deficiencies. They become glaring without that artillery. The new lad Darwin has brought elements of that dynamic back to a degree, but without that prime Bobby and Prime Mo, it’s not easy to replicate.

Either way… Nunez cannot come back quick enough. We are sitting ducks without him

More like Diaz can't come back quick enough......... but yeah.....

Should still be quality up that end of the pitch with the options we have but apparently we can't score now either.... going to start wondering about Jota soon.. great start for us but then just gone downhill, another injury crook

This kind of ineptitude was in evidence again on Saturday night. I know people say he doesn't have the protection he had but a RB should be able to do the basics of defending and he very often can't.
There was at least two occasions on Saturday when Olise whipped a ball in from their right side and Trent literally watched it go across him and land at a Palace players feet. It was absolutely atrocious.
This is alongside the stray lazy pass he ave to a Palace forward and when got skinned on the touchline. Saturday was one of his worst performances but luckily didn't cost us a goal.

If you were advising Klopp, what coaching and level of automation would you suggest he put in place to make Gomez a better defender?

That's not an automation thing, almost all the world's best centre backs become so through 3, 4 or more years of being at teams that aren't the best sides in their League or other competitions having to do an awful lot of defending an awful lot of very different situations and scenarios, Gomez has never had that, mu suggestion, in the summer of 2020 were that he was sent on loan to try and gain that experience

Automation is established patterns of play built up and refined by the players over a number of ganes and seasons that over that process and period becomes second nature, helps you do what you do best without thinking, you know the runs your team mate will make when he sees the ball being played to you in a certain position and so can easily play the perfect or near perfect pass to find or release them a very high percentage of the time

Theere are numerous layers to it, a lot in a finely tuned side with years of that collective understanding of what each other player can and will do in a certain situation, position or passage of play

The automation we 'used to have' was the best i've ever seen, reaching its height in Fab's absence before being broken down piece by piece by Jurgen over the last 2 and a half seasons beginning with his reintroduction of Fab in 19-20
