Pub quiz points for those who can name the other players who have hit both marks in a single season in the Premier League era for us.

It's not a very long list.
ndeed, while Nunez is one of the biggest underperformers related to his expected goals in the Premier League this season, scoring 11 times from an xG of 14.86, Jota stands out as one of the biggest overperformers, netting his nine goals from an xG of only 4.42. gakpo nearly has half the assists as nunez in the league and hardly plays.. your point?

Yawn with the amount of chances... should be scoring more we make a crazy amount......

new striker needed, or at least a new attacker on that front line who's clinical, salah isn't going to get any better now and if anything will drop off obviously the others don't score chances enough, and Jota is always injured if salah is not on it, we struggle

Nunez cost us in the fa-cup now cost us in the league, simple as that, much like karius in champions league but obviously strikers don't get the same treatment as goalkeepers/back 4 that fuck up yet costs us just as much. some chances i could fucking finish

Not hitting the target from just a few yards out is a regular thing for him.
Said a few weeks back we need a more clinical forward/attacker next season and if he's the one who makes way then so be it.
Absolutely shocking. But then again so was Mo's from about 3 yards out.

We've scored a lot of goals this season. We're just very erratic. On another day we'd have scored 6 or 7.

But saying that, even with Bobby and Mane in the side we'd waste a ton of chances.

It's the speed we play, everything is 100mph all the time.

that "on another day" has not happened for a while, that's the issue here, we've been poor for a while just not seen it because we've scraped the results it was going to cost us eventually, and yesterday it did. Sheffiled utd and brighton should not have been a problem at home, yet they gave us a game..... should have hit a lot of goals past both and catch up to arsenals GD possibly.. but yeah

I think he last did that well in the City game for a spell

He only had two presentable real chances which tells it’s own story & I thought his assist was great but there weren’t even any nearly assist moments after that,

On the one everyone was slating him for there’s a replay showing the keeper & defender effectively block the goal right as he’s pulling the trigger, don’t think he could have got it through

It was a comedy of errors compared to how we used to counter so clinically, bad pass by Szobo to Mo, he should play it first time to properly release Diaz, but takes a touch & releases him but not as he could have, he just has to pull the trigger, go high near post or low across the keeper with Nunez there to pounce in any party

We’ve let out standards at some things drop off considerably, our once best in the world counter attacks & direct ability have been on the wain since 21-22
IMPO Nunez will never be the top finisher we thought we were getting. I think he looks more comfortable out wide. He’s had plenty of time to fit in and doesn’t seem to have developed much since he got here. We got Gakpo thinking he could replace Firmino and again looks more comfortable out wide. We haven’t replaced Mane because Díaz is has fallen short. Now Salah seems to be fading. For me Jota is the best finisher we have, but his body can only handle around a dozen games before it breaks down again. Our front three have let us down having so many chances. Knowing our defense has at least three brain farts in a game. A lot of goals we concede are simple, it looks so easy to score against us when we’re dominating games for so long. Very frustrating to watch considering the horrendous injuries we’ve had this season. Were so close but feels that we’ve fallen short right near the end.

They have created more Opta-defined 'big chances' than those title rivals too. Six more than Man City and 14 more than Arsenal.

wonder how many of them are nunez

Oh here we go found figures

The chief culprits? Darwin Nunez has missed 24 of his 30 clear-cut chances in the Premier League this season.
Luis Diaz - who has missed 10 of his 16 big openings - should have at least a couple more than his eight.

fuck me, he can't start for us next season we won't win a thing.

    Correct.

But - and might go against your sentiment...that is because it is not - and never was - the very top quality of football that is deployed by the very best sides. There is no energy conservation - just million mile an hour blitzkrieg, heavy-metal football. Hoping to crush teams with sheer work ethic and will.

The most exciting, exhilarating watch YES.. At times the most effective...It can win you games you have no right to win AND under severe handicap too - it can - with the right mentality go through a season with so many wins you make a title unwinnable shorty after Christmas... but it won't win out too often against the very best sides - certainly not in the biggest games. This is proven even when we were at our so called zenith under Klopp. Always struggled in this scenario.

God love him - Klopp KNOWS this - imo it's WHY he tried desperately to get to the next level. Playing this way and working this hard is most likely what has exhausted him and his team. He has only ever known this though here and at Dortmund. He has never again been in a position to do a 2018 (Coutinho dosh) and buy 3 players he believes are WC and ready made.

His teams have to run a marathon...Even the fresh young guns are looking wasted. Shattered. They have run and run and run and put their bodies on the line to stay in this race. The other 2 teams seem to be just playing their game. NOT over extending their squad. They don't have to really - both are in the CL remember... They can play at 90% and win games...We need 110% often against minnows. We don't seem to be able to do this - but if they (Arse/City) have to - they can rest and rotate but still maintain the game that keeps lesser opponents at arms length. This makes it so much easier when the big games arrive.

I think this season is actually one of Klopp's most incredible achievements - BUT it may still not be enough.

Hope beyond hope we can do it but it looks really really tough.

I do wonder if Amorim or whoever it is going to be might have playing a more polished brand of football. Something like you say that might be a bit more energy efficient.
Fully agree with your last sentence too. Even if we had won yesterday I wouldn't be thinking much differently,we still have tough games to negotiate.

Both he or Xabi would defo go for a different more technical and surgical approach. Jürgen is German don’t forget. They engineer very well and the work ethic is exceptional - but the finest details are often over looked in place of power.

I believe Klopp is the ONLY manager who is going to deliver the big titles playing this style - this brand of hugely taxing football. And ONLY him because ONLY he has that personality to get that amount from the player.

    Nunez is naturally left side
    Gakpo is naturally left side
    Diaz is naturally left side
I posted such thoughts a while ago.
We are overloaded with such great players but try to accommodate them elsewhere

We've had this discussion many times about the quality of our players. They're probably not as good as I think they are and probably not as poor as you think they are...

But hard running will only get you so far if you dont have quality players. We're in our 4th title race in 6 years and on course for a fourth 90+ point finish. That's not normal, it's not doable without good players. That's not doable without winning big matches against big sides.

What I do agree with is that it's wrecking our players. It makes the season harder because we are constantly losing players left, right and centre.

And agreed on Klopp's greatest achievement.
