Difference with Iniesta (massively underrated btw!) and Zidane is they both were surrounded by quality at both club and international level.

Really? - and Gerrards golden generation were all clodhopping shit were they? Overrated as many of them were - they were on a par with many of their Spanish counterparts - at least that is how the MEDIA and many here would have had it at the time... - Him and Lampard couldn't consistently do it at that level. Thats the reality. minus the passion of those fans..

Iniesta was a much better footballer. Gerrard would happily admit it. Different gear altogether. And Zidane is one of the worlds greatest mate.

Paul Scholes was the closest we had - to that level - in truth

Are you comparing Xavi and Busquets to Lampard and Carrick/Butt/Hargreaves?

And at club level Iniesta was part of arguably the best club side of all time with every single player in the starting xi had great technique.

Surely this is the argument that you are to make.

Not arguing that Iniesta had better technique than Garrard but would Iniesta have been able to pull us through games like Stevie used to?

Barca we not as good or as dominant as the great Milan sides imo but that's another discussion. It was suggested that Gerrard may have been more effective than Iniesta or Zidane.. I am saying he wasn't for club or country.

Carrick/Butt/Hargreaves were not the only players Gerrard had beside him at International level.

    Englands Golden Generation..

    Euro 2004*| Quarter Finals
Major Players*: David Seaman, Ashley Cole, Terry, Campbell, Beckham, Scholes, Owen, Lampard, Gerrard

2006 FIFA World Cup*| Quarter Finals
Major Players*: Gary Neville, Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Ferdinand, Terry, Beckham, Rooney.

    2010 FIFA World Cup*| Round of 16
Major Players : Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Glen Johnson, Rooney, Defoe

    Best 11?

    Probably 2004

    D.James
    A.Cole
    J.Terry
    S.Campbell
    D.Beckham
    P.Scholes
    S.Gerrard
    F.Lampard
    W.Rooney
    M.Owen
    J.Cole

All of these sides combined couldn’t match tiny nation of 4 million Croatia with Dejan Lovren - little more than - just Luka Modric!!

    Technique... Technique - Technique…

This was the Spain starting 11 for World Cup final and probably - give or take Torres for Villa their best 11. Compare it to some of those Engerland squads. At the time we were being touted as better than them - man for man. Obviously that wasn't the case.

    Iker Casillas*(c)
    Sergio Ramos
    Gerard Piqué
    Carles Puyol
    Joan Capdevila
    Sergio Busquets
    Xabi Alonso
    Xavi
    Andrés Iniesta
    Pedro
    David Villa

    MOTM - Andrés Iniesta*

On this "Not arguing that Iniesta had better technique than Gerrard but would Iniesta have been able to pull us through games like Stevie used to" I don't think he could have done what Gerrard did for us like that - so my answer is no.

That was an area of the game where Gerrard was at the very top level, physically dominant and able to rifle a strike past almost any keeper. But at a higher level of football - I believe Stevie G had less effect. As in his talents got you so far. Heroics in the FA cup final but also part of why we were behind in the game. He often dragged us through games where we deserved little or nothing. He was a battler and he was superb..

It's natural for a Liverpool fan to believe Stevie was one of the best ever, and for us he was, but he isn't quite up there with the very best on the world stage.

Ah - hopefully you mean Melo yellow… Yes I saw an article claiming we had suffered a major injury blow to our midfield.

Obviously I was expecting a disaster until I realised it was the invisible man.

However I have since seen that Thiago was missing from training today. Is he out too?

Talk about not learning from your mistakes, this is now an exact replica of our CB debacle.

    Heard nothing relating to Thiago.

Exact replica and just swap Ben Davies for Arthur melo.

2 signings to plug holes that it seems obvious the manager didn't want and won't use.
