World rankings are a sham and favours European nations for playing each other. Wales are in no way the 19th best team in the world. Maybe 19th best in Europe. But I can name at least 12 or more teams on other continents who would wipe Wales.

These are just the Top African sides. Before someone says but Wales qualified for WC, well it is easy to qualify if your continent is given almost half of the WC spots and you get ranking points for competing in your continental tournament which the last 2 editions were bloated with almost half of Europe WAS AT THE Euros. You also get ranking points for Nations League so free points for playing each other and a continental showpiece and easier entry to WC.
Wales is also not better than the other South American teams that are not here. They are not better than most of the top Asian nations.
Most European Nations are not the ranking worth, world cup seeding again based on rankings favour European teams. Also playing a home world cup every 2 or so editions helps European teams collect those free rating points. This WC is showing that if we have more WC outside of Europe, also if other continents have more representatives, Europe only has about 3-5 top nations. Rankings just hiding and aiding lots of mediocre teams.
If Wales played 10 games in a row against Nigeria they would win 1 at most,

Wales are dour. The Euros where they did well, think the tournament had 24 teams and 16 make it to next round. Think they beat Belgium in last 16 great performance indeed. But look at the opposition and the progress...
Northern Ireland, and Slovakia, They also beat Russia in the group's stage but again are Russia's elite or ranking point elite.
So Wales reached the semi and received massive ranking points, then play in the Nations league where as I said truly Europe has about 6 big hitters the rest are not great. If we had a global world cup qualification many European teams that go to WC like Greece, Wales etc won't ever play in the WC

@Hlogi, if the rankings are hiding "lots of mediocre teams" why pick on little old Wales? It's not like they've taken up valuable World Cup spots from other countries for the last seventy years!

Ranking points for continental tournaments should not account for so much, however with the next WC format though it is bloated it is a fairer allocation for all continents. So rankings will see a more balanced view as the years go.
If I offended any Welsh peeps, sorry was just highlighting that they are not the 19th best team in the world, the same as Belgium are not the 2nd best team. Playing Latvia. Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Moldova, and all those weak teams really make qualification easy in Europe. Whereas her in Africa you win your group and still had to play 2 knockout rounds, Ghana got to the WC by beating South Africa and Nigeria.
