They have an amazing record - though almost all of it at the infancy of world international football competition. The 1950's Brazil win is the anomaly and even that is early doors and a world cup dominated by post war issues - with many nations withdrawing or not competing at all. They haven't been performing at anything like those levels in the modern era. Also they have often been notorious for playing extremely cynical football.

But England claims the world game but did not enter WC till 1950 and English teams weren't interested in European football until late 50s.
I think Birmingham were amongst the first and done quite well.
If England had won those Olympic trophies they would be claiming them as WC wins.

Yep - lot's to do with world wars. I mean from the 20's to the 50's, so much of the world was shattered. Ironically Uruguay , along with Argentina and Brazil - where so many Nazi's escaped to via the Vatican aided Ratlines.

We don't learn any of this in ours schools..
