From a previous post of mine on a different thread this is another fine example of how French language (the ruling class in England for many centuries) is still used to add a little bit of polish to an English statement .

    Shit-ski.

That’s my attempt at a adding some polish.. doh

The Normans - those French speaking Vikings - brought so much French to these shores.

So much so that modern day English is close to 60% French or Latin, despite its Germanic roots.

    Dear Steveo
That little bit of polish remains.
I meant polish as in to enhance or shine rather than polish from the country of Poland
Many examples abound but I cannot recall them all today.
But for example (excuse spelling please)
    C'est la vie
    Mon amour
    Mon Ami
    Faux Pas
    Fait accomplis
    Bonne chance
    Magnifique
    Touche
    Engarde

‘Bonnet de douche’ me old mucker…

Yep… I was aware you were using the word ‘polish’ in the ‘shine up’ context mate. I was just trying to make a little joke… A cross border play on language.

…your choice of word “polish” being the same construction of letters in English that spells the name we give to people from Poland.

I was trying to add a little…err… hmmm… ‘je ne sais quoi’
