It certainly isn't "gone" but I'll lay out why I am not as confident about it as I'd like to be.

Man United will likely win tonight, taking them up to 3rd and pushing Newcastle down into 4th spot.

If it transpires as such, then Man United will have won 5 and lost 1 of a 6-game cluster. Newcastle will have won 5 and drawn 1 of a 6-game cluster - not to mention a 6-point lead on us as it is.

So we need to close a reasonable gap on sides that are in better form. There's quite a lot of time (21 games) so writing us off entirely is pointless - but the trouble we could find ourselves in is clear to see.

Lose against Brighton or Chelsea and we could be NINE points off the Champion's League spots. You're then hoping for three things -

- to go on a run
- to see a side above you capitulate
- to see any of Spurs/Chelsea/Brighton/Fulham fail to capitalise on our malaise.

That may seem a bit Doom-and-Gloom, but it's the reality. When sides drop points, we need to be capitalising more often than not and we failed to do that last night.

It is really odd. I think we've done well in the other areas of the side in transitioning from that 2020 side. Jota/Diaz/Nunez and now Gakpo. Konate and Ramsay at the other end of the pitch.

2 really good midfielders would make a world of difference.
