Good post Steveo...I first became a fan as a 7 year old kid during the '75/76 season after seeing the swaying kop and that red machine under Paisley on MOTD...I remember an interview with Emlyn Hughes,he said after they'd won the first European Cup in '77 him and Bob Paisley turned to each other and simply said 'Shanks'....That says it all...
Yep defo...despite the 2nd place in '13/14 we'd been between 6th and 8th since the 2nd in '08/09 and 8th in '15/16 the year Leicester won it...Jurgen had a big job to get us anywhere near the top and fair play to him for what he's achieved but what Shanks did was incredible really...I think for me Bob had the edge tactically in Europe and made us even stronger but of course we were already established as a top side by then...

Ironic discussing this about Shanks...This vid came up on my Youtube via the Firestick last night, the date stood out for me because I was literally 10 DAYS old at the time...

Agree.
We all love Bob and rightly so but Bill Shankly is an icon, not just in football but British culture, his socialist ideology is legendary. He was the catalyst for LFC being the institution they are.
Klopp is our generations Shankly. His influence is akin to Shanklys in my opinion, we'll miss him so much when he's gone.
Worth bearing in mind we had a season where we lost 6 on the spin - followed by a season where we had a good attempt at a Quad.
Few would have had much faith after the 6 losses in a row in 20/21 - but we pulled it out of the bag. Hopefully we can find a way again.
The flip side is that we fail and we end up outside of the Champion's League spots. It's easy to feel Doom-and-Gloom about that prospect (I'm certainly very nervous of it) but also as a counter we should note that the current League leaders were (if I recall correctly) without Champion's League football in 17/18, 18/19, 19/20, 20/21 and 21/22 - yet now have a decent squad
Incredible to think - the only player imo that comes close to Diego.. George Best.. look at his quality.. Imagine him minus the alcohol on today's putting green pitches with the protection attackers get.

I mentioned that the other day. I just think that we looked like we had the players who were still at a high level whereas now it doesn't look that way.
The mental aspect of last season could possibly be a factor.
Sad thing is if the midfield had been addressed a couple of seasons ago that Quad or atleast a treble would very likely have happened.
It all leads back to the same issue for me.
Indeed...We had Mo, Mane, Bobby and Jota for the run in.. Hendo was missing as was any senior CB but we had that dynamism going forward. Also a younger Thiago and a younger Fabinho... We don't have that at all right now.
