Know it was probably said tongue-in-cheek but if Morton comes back into the set-up next season and looks ready for minutes, I think two could potentially be enough if we pick the right ones.

Then the following Summer you get a third as to cover the departure of Thiago.

Elliott, Jones, Bajcetic, Morton, Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago will be on the books - that's seven lads - then add two robust mids to take it up to nine.

Henderson and Fabinho might look "shot" right now but if Fabinho was getting rotated more heavily and rested I'm sure he could still look good in spells via patches of form - he isn't 30 yet! Then Henderson I'm sure could look fine if he was getting the Milner level number of minutes rather than an automatic starter.

It’s natural - as they hit 30 they need to be rotated. This is what all elite clubs do. This is part and parcel of the problem. There have been no genuine options. Bodies here and there - yes… genuine options… nope. Could we ever rely on Keita, Oxlade or Jones? No way… Then Milner is purely for emergency cover. If he plays 2 games in a week - he’s on the floor.
